At 53, Heather Graham Admits She “Feels Free” Not Having Kids, and Her Honesty Is Refreshing

Not all women see motherhood in their future, and that’s totally fine. And at 53, actress Heather Graham explained her decision not to have kids and why she’s so glad about it today. We rarely hear celebrities open up about this subject given how sensitive and personal it is, making Graham’s honesty all the more admirable.
The bright side of being child-free
The actress, who is now dating snowboarder John de Neufville, believes that not becoming a mother was the perfect choice for her. She admitted, ’’Not having kids, I do feel free. And I get a lot of sleep. That is pretty great.’’
Having said that, Graham says that if she ’’somehow had had kids,’’ she believes that she ’’would’ve been cool’’ with that idea as well.
She nurtures and gives extra care to her job instead.
She believes that “the universe gives you someone or something to nurture,” and in her case, that ’’something’’ was her beloved profession. In fact, the actress has started to dedicate more of her time and energy to working behind the camera.
Graham went on to explain that she sometimes feels like her projects are "little kids.’’ She added, ’’I have started to get more involved in producing and writing and directing.’’
The 53-year-old, who is very passionate about her craft, admits that sometimes it’s hard, however, she also acknowledges that it’s ’’super fulfilling.’’ She also noted, ’’It’s really exciting to want to tell a story that you really care about.’’
Her one regret is career related.
And even though she confessed, ’’I don’t feel that I’m missing anything,’’ referring to having children, Graham does admit that she has a regret regarding her career.
The On a Wing and a Prayer actress revealed that sometimes she wakes up in the morning thinking about a specific good role that she missed the opportunity to play. However, Graham won’t reveal which movie it was, saying, ’’I am embarrassed to even say [the name of] it because it’s so dumb that I didn’t do it.’’
Having said that, the star is very content about the path she’s on and declared, ’’I’m so happy that I got to be an actress.’’
And even though she loves her career more than anything, as she grew older, Graham noted that her professional ambition decreased. "My most important goal is to enjoy my life,’’ she said. ’’It’s so much more fulfilling than trying so hard to be somewhere in your career.’’
Being grateful for what we have is what matters most.
More and more women are choosing to remain child-free, and Graham believes that the universe gives us what we’re meant to have. She noted, ’’If you’re meant to have kids, you have kids.’’
The actress chooses to have a holistic view of life and feels blessed for her journey so far. Graham shared, ’’I think we all have different paths. You just have to embrace the one that you’re on.’’ And we believe that this is a very wholesome and beautiful way to see life.
