Meet Erika Ervin, the Tallest Model in the World, Whose Whole Life Has Been a Never-Ending Struggle

Erika felt that she was “different” at an early age.

Erika’s struggle with herself and the people who surrounded her began in childhood. She felt she was different when she was 5 years old, and by the age of 7, she realized that it was her male gender that was a huge issue for her. In an interview, she confessed that when she looked in the mirror she had a strong desire to turn into a girl. All of her friends back then were girls, and she absolutely adored the toys intended for girls and the way more feminine names sounded.

In her interview, she recalled, “I believed in magic back then — haha! I loved angels and dragons at that age and wanted one to visit me and be my protector, like in the movie, Pete’s Dragon. Angels and dragons are similar beings in comparative mythologies. None came to help me.”

Her father never accepted her and she had a really tough relationship with him right up to the moment when her mom finally divorced the abusive man.

Her way to self-acceptance began with her gender transition.

Erika transitioned from male to female in 2004, and this was a dream come true for her, but it didn’t come without great loss. None of her family members supported her and she ultimately was left all alone, without any help or support from those dearest to her, including her brother. But she never gave up, and over the years, she was able to build a huge, supportive network of people from all over the world who praised her, understood her, and never judged her for her choices.

Today, she is an avid advocate for LGBT rights, abused children, and those who have HIV. She’s also a huge motivator for all people who have lost trust in themselves.

She said, “Every young woman deserves a flowering time. Friends and family support are really important, so be patient when you come out to your loved ones. Love yourself. Be cautious with what you see in the mirror, and be kind to yourself. Say to yourself, ’I deserve love.’ Self-acceptance is one of the most important factors in your transition and your mental well-being. Have fun and celebrate your life. Be safe out there.”

Fame and recognition have come to Erika after her hard work and patience.

Erika is widely known as Amazon Eve, and she’s a model, fitness trainer, and actress. She has played a regular character on American Horror Story: Freak Show, and that’s when she became popular because of her extraordinary height. She stands at 6 feet and 8 inches (2.03 m) tall.

She has been trying hard to get roles as an actress but initially gave up on the idea, as she was constantly offered roles as an alien or monster. At some point, she got tired of the office life that she had at that moment and joined a gym. It was there that she experienced her first failure because she was striving for an unrealistic size 0 physique, and it almost cost her health. But Erika is a person who learns from her mistakes, and she now has a healthier body image and began to view herself as a super-sized version of Superwoman.

She tours the world participating in height comparison photo shoots and regular modeling jobs. In 2011, she was crowned The World’s Tallest Professional Model by Guinness World Records.

Real love was also on its way to Erika’s heart.

With her distinguished height, Erika used to normally dwarf all men that she met on her way. But now, the towering brunette is in a happy relationship and barely has to stoop down to kiss her man. Her boyfriend, Dennis Hargrove, is in his sixties and measures 6’4″, which finally makes the couple a near-perfect match. Erika met her Mr. Right when he was her accountant, and they felt a spark between them instantly.

Dennis admires Erika and got candid about her personality. He said, “’She is a tender loving companion to me. She sometimes complains about her height from time to time, but I know she enjoys being tall. She likes to live out a superhero fantasy, imagining herself wearing a costume, ridding the world of evil with her brains, martial arts, and sense of justice as her only weapons. My nickname for her is ’Victory,’ as to me, she represents the statue Winged Victory of Samothrace in the Louvre Museum in Paris.”
