Among the numerous movies we encounter in our lives, there are those that manage to intrigue us with their plot, surprise us with their ending, and stay in our memory for a long time. These are the movies that many of us want to watch over and over again to try and figure out what we missed the first time around.

Bright Side collected some excellent suspense-themed movies with unexpected endings whose audiences came back with rave reviews.

Side Effects, 2013

When her husband came back from prison, Emily, the main character, fell into a deep depression and even tried to commit suicide. After visiting a psychiatrist, she was prescribed an experimental medicine to improve her mental condition. The medicine is working perfectly and she now leads a normal life, except for one thing - the drug's side effects lead her to do something terrible in her sleep.

The movie is both a drama and psychological thriller that keeps spectators tense until the last minute.

Tell No One (Ne le Dis à Personne), 2006

8 years ago Alexandre Beck's wife was murdered by a serial killer. Alex couldn't get over the loss and threw himself into his work. Soon 2 more victims are found at the crime scene and all the evidence points to Alex. The situation gets even more complicated when, on the same day, Alex gets information that his wife is probably alive and now they are both in danger.

This is a perfect psychological detective movie that deserves your attention.

Identity, 2003

10 people not familiar with each other settle in an old motel while hiding from a strong storm. Soon they discover that they are involved in a game of survival and the killer is among them.

It's an atmospheric and gloomy detective thriller. Not even avid movie fans were able to guess the ending.

Mindhunters, 2004

7 future FBI agents are taking a final test on a distant island. Its results will determine who will get into the department of "mindhunters" - people who can compile a detailed psychological portrait of any killer. The test becomes real when an actual killer appears on the island and no one knows what he or she looks like. Will the survivors find the maniac that calculates their actions clearly and never makes mistakes?

This is a psychological detective movie that makes viewers dive in head first and become invisible observers of each scene.

The Hole, 2001

The main character of this movie tells a criminal psychologist about the things that happened when she, her friend, and 2 other guys went down to a bunker to have a party. The teenagers wanted to challenge their school, their parents, and their routine life, but they were not expecting to encounter the things that happened to them in there.

This is a shocking movie that touches on the topic of human relationships.

Stay, 2005

A student, Henry Letham, is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and tells his psychiatrist, Sam Foster, that he wants to commit suicide. To prevent Henry from doing it, the doctor starts a journey with him around the city but gradually starts to sink into his nightmarish illusions.

This is an atmospheric movie which will leave you in complete astonishment.

Primal Fear, 1996

A young guy is blamed for killing an archbishop but he denies his guilt. Successful attorney, Martin Vail, defends this guy and tries, at all costs, to save him from the death penalty. The intrigue in the movie reaches its peak when ex-lovers, the attorney and the prosecutor, Janet Venable, meet each other during the trial.

The movie is based on William Diehl's novel of the same name.

The Usual Suspects, 1995

Dozens of dead people are found on one of the shipping vessels in a New York City port. Nobody knows how they died. An investigator takes the case and interrogates one of the survivors. He tells his whole story starting from the police station where he met 4 career criminals.

This is a perfect movie that is worth watching for the shocking ending.

Malice, 1993

A teacher, Andy Safian, has a seemingly happy marriage with his beautiful wife Tracy. But in actuality their married life is tarnished by their inability to have children. This struggle overshadows their marriage, but they never lose hope. They meet Dr. Jed Hill, a successful surgeon, who brings chaos to their life by involving them in an intricate plot of intrigue and treachery.

This is a brilliant movie with a tangled plotline.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, 2011

Harriet Vanger got lost on an island 40 years ago and her body was never found. Her uncle is sure that the killer is one of the members of his family and that's why he decides to hire an experienced journalist and tattooed girl to investigate the case.

This is an intriguing movie based on the novel by Stieg Larsson.

Murder on the Orient Express, 2017

A mysterious murder happens in one of the most luxurious trains in Europe. All of the passengers are suspects. An esteemed detective, Hercule Poirot, starts the investigation to solve this mysterious puzzle. He needs to find the killer before he or she strikes the next blow.

This is an excellent movie based on the book by Agatha Christie - the queen of detective novels.

Taking Lives, 2004

There is a cruel maniac in the Canadian city of Montreal that leaves behind piles of corpses and lives the lives of his victims. He uses their credit cards, bank accounts, and names. Not being able to understand the motives for his murders, the city detectives come to a dead end. That's why the case is handed over to FBI profiler Illeana Scott who wants to get inside the killer's head and predict his future actions.

This psychological detective film is full of surprises and unpredictable twists.

The Invisible Guest (Contratiempo), 2016

The main character of the movie is Adrián Doria, a young and successful businessman, who finds his lover dead in a hotel room. All blame falls on him because he and his girlfriend were the only ones in the room. Adrián denies his guilt and asks attorney Virginia Goodman for help. She decides to help find the truth by any means possible.

At first glance the plot might seem simple, but minute by minute you'll be drawn further and further into the secrets of the characters and the intricacies of the plot. The end of the story will definitely leave you wanting to watch the movie all over again.

The Best Offer (La Migliore Offerta), 2012

An aged auctioneer, Virgil Oldman, gets an offer from a mysterious woman asking to sell her family jewelry. They can't meet each other personally, which really annoys the main character. Later he finds out that no one has ever seen this mysterious stranger in person. So Oldman decides to visit her home to not only to sell her jewelry, but also to reveal her mystery.

This is an elegant detective movie with an emotional storyline.

The Vanishing of Sidney Hall, 2017

The main character is a schoolboy who is a talented writer, publishes his own novel, and becomes a nominee for a Pulitzer Prize. This movie shows the 3 stages of this young writer's process of maturing. The viewers will also learn what prompted him to write the novel and what price he had to pay for it.

This is an excellent movie where the knot of intrigue and mystery gets untangled only by the end of the plot.
