15 Stories About Home Repairs That Are Both Comedy and Drama

Curiosities

The lack of skills and time sometimes can force us to resort to the help of professionals when it comes to repairs or any other work. But it can happen that professionals become the heroes of fascinating stories, and their clients can’t want to share them online.

  • A friend had a clogged drain in her bathroom. She called a plumber. So she’s standing there and watching him pull out a huge clump of black hair! Apparently, cleaning the drain after a shower is not her thing.
She looks at the clump and blushes. The plumber says, “Long-haired dogs need so much care. What’s the dog’s name?” “The dog’s” name is Pauline, but she didn’t say it! © DarkElf2000 / Pikabu
  • Nothing motivates you to do a job quickly and responsibly save the text after each paragraph like a dialogue between electricians working on the substation near your house:
    — Bill, why do you pull the cable all the time?
    — I’m not pulling it. This box wasn’t placed right from the beginning. © MACTX3B / Pikabu
  • A guy did my ceiling, finished the work, talked to someone on the phone and looked at me guiltily.
    — Something happened?
    — Can I leave the tools here until tomorrow?
    — Sure, but what happened?
    — I thought my coworkers would pick me up by car, but they decided to go out tonight... © Doddy / Pikabu
  • I ordered a countertop for the kitchen. The workers asked us to buy the faucet and trap in advance to make cutouts for the right size. I bought everything. The drain from the trap was rectangular. Well, I thought, it was okay.
In the end, the workers made the trap drain round and larger in size than necessary, and this cannot be redone. I had to look for a new trap. When I pointed out the defect, they made a fuss about it. © ImbaLife2 / Pikabu
  • I am sitting at home, the window is open. I hear the builders talking while mounting an air conditioner or insulating the facade of the house:
    — Bastards, they stole this money, for sure.
    — Why do you think they stole it? Maybe they earned it?
    — Where can you earn money nowadays?
    — They’re programmers. It costs a lot of money to make a website. Do you know how to make a website?
    — No.
    — Then shut up and give me the tools.
They worked in silence after that. © Bristel / Pikabu
  • I put the laundry into the washing machine, turned it on — it doesn’t work. I checked everything, unplugged and plugged it again. I closed the door, closed the powder compartment. I stood there dumbfounded and didn’t know what else to do.
So, I called the handyman, he arrived in an hour. He looked at the machine, asked me a lot of questions, like “What did you do to it?” and after 5 minutes of thinking just moved it. And it started working! I was very embarrassed. © bengala / Pikabu
  • I had a leaky tap. I called a handyman. About an hour after he left, everything was normal, but then the tap started to leak even more. I am shocked, I call his office, demanding to fix the tap again, and they ignore me and say that they won’t return the money and won’t fix it again either.
I walk angrily around the house, step on my left foot, and suddenly a severe pain pierces my heel. I thought it was a splinter. I couldn’t remove it myself and went to a podologist. After a very unpleasant procedure, they managed to extract the source of my pain.
It turned out to be a man’s facial hair! The doctor asked me if my husband had a mustache. I don’t have a husband. And then I remembered that the plumber had a mustache and a beard. In short, the man was in my house for only an hour, but caused so many problems... © Chamber 6 / VK
  • My husband called a plumber to fix a clogged toilet. And I went to the toilet and forgot to lock the door. My husband opens the door, I’m sitting on the toilet bowl, and this genius seriously says to the plumber, “And here’s the problem that’s causing the clogged toilet.” I wanted to drown in shame... © Chamber 6 / VK
  • I enter our house and see a strange woman sitting in the hall. I ask my mom, “Who is that?” And she says, “It’s the wife of an electrician who’s working in our house now.” I can’t imagine how much you don’t trust your husband that you have to go to work with him. This lady was sitting there until he finished the job. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I can look very different in the morning, so the handyman who was assembling a wardrobe greeted me for the second time when I came out of my room after doing my makeup and hair. © Overheard / Ideer
  • We have been calling an electrician for a week because of a faulty bulb socket in the stairwell. First, he came without tools. Then he came with tools, but the wrong ones. The next day he forgot to pay us a visit, after which he had 2 days off.
Yesterday he showed up without tools but figured out that the problem was in the bulb socket. Today he came with tools but without a bulb to check the socket — he didn’t even notice that a working bulb was inside a faulty socket. It’s infuriating! © Overheard / Ideer
  • An electrician came to change a socket in my house. He was a sweet old man. He saw my paintings and started telling me about his childhood. About how he loved to draw, wanted to become an artist, but didn’t enroll into college.
I could see that his eyes lit up, and a dream woke up somewhere in the depths of his soul. I gave him a painting, a blank canvas, brushes and some paint. © Overheard / Ideer
  • Once I was about to leave the house. I am standing near the door and suddenly hear that someone is picking the lock on the other side. I was so frightened that I started shouting, “Go away, I’m going to call the police!” I called my husband in tears. It turned out that it was the electrician fixing the electricity meter, which is right above our door. © Overheard / Ideer
  • Yesterday, I did the laundry and flooded the entire house. The machine fountained from all the cracks. The handyman came and fixed the machine in 3 minutes: he pulled 2 children’s socks out of the pipe. One of the kids decided to play laundry and stuck them in the detergent compartment. What a bunch of helpers! © Mamdarinka / VK
  • The management company sent a handyman. I’ve been renting the apartment for 2 years and the landlord finally decided to fix everything. Do you know what the hardest part was? Asking to fix the door of the wardrobe in the bedroom. Because “it’s just a small thing, you can live with it.” © OlgaBeshley / Twitter

However, you can renovate your house with your own hands. Though, this doesn’t mean that everything will end well.
