With a fervent passion for the obscure and a shared commitment to collaborative investigation, Redditors transform the platform into a treasure trove of knowledge, where the most enigmatic puzzles are gradually pieced together, and the veil of mystery is lifted, one insightful comment at a time. They are modern-day detectives.

1. “What are these on my pants?”

Answer: Functionally they should be attached to straps inside the pants that are meant to be tied around the thighs. It’s a design where the straps can be tightened to keep the pants from sagging when carrying a lot of stuff in the pockets.

2. “What is this thing? Chalk-like consistency, clear unmarked tube, tastes like lime, apparently. Banana for scale.”

Answer: Styptic stick. Stops a bleeder if you knick yourself shaving.

3. “Table or chair with dip? Any ideas about what it could be used for?”

I think it's a guard's chair. The hollow is a place for the guard's
keys and time clock to rest while he sits.

Answer: I’ve seen one of two of these in the past, normally there is a bowl that fits in there, so you can throw stuff in it.

4. “What is this thing? The inside opens up to empty space, it’s disconnected from the desk below.”

Answer: It’s a bed desk. There’s supposed to be a metal bar underneath that slots into the wooden tray, so you can prop it up at different angles for reading and stuff.

5. “What is this clip tool attached to a wristband?”

Answer: I feel it’s for someone playing in an instrument in a marching band to hold their sheet music.

6. “What is this series of metallic half spheres which decrease in size attached as all one piece to a telephone pole, nailed on vertically above head height?”

Answer: I think it’s a lawn decoration meant to deter birds. It keeps woodpeckers and birds away.

7. “A medium-sized wooden base with short peg from the center and longer peg on coming from the side with a ring on the end of the longer peg.”

Answer: It is a gravity bottle stand, made by Tellico Turnings.

8. “A weird purple plastic object with a suction cup on the bottoms.”

Answer: Myofascial release/trigger point therapy. Basically putting a lot of pressure on a specific area for muscle tension release.

9. “Found in a playground. Blue orb with a hole on the bottom and one on the side. It doesn’t move.”

Answer: They’re just drums you beat on. My park has a similar thing, but they’re more shaped like bongos. You just pat on the top.

10. “What are these compartments for on this bottle opener?”

Answer: I believe they’re extra bottle caps, so you can recap your drink.

11. “Sliding tray with holes on both sides of this sofa.”

Answer: It has another piece to it. It’s a tray with matching pegs. The tray goes on top and the pegs slide in. They fit together, so the tray sits tightly. Then you take the tray back to the kitchen and put the sliding part back, so it’s not in the way.

12. “A housewarming gift. It’s half wood, half marble, two semicircle dips, mini spoon. What the heck is it?”

Answer: It’s a salt and pepper “pinch pot”.

13. “Around 1m high made of glass, probably originated from a refinery or a power plant before the 90s.”

Answer: Mercury Arc Rectifier.

14. “What is this rubber thing on my water bottle?”

Answer: It is to attach it to your bag etc, it looks like the bulbous end would fit through the larger hole near the bottle and lock into place.

15. “What is this? Made of rubber, 1 inch tall.”

Answer: I have something like that that came with a set of collapsible rubber measuring cups. The cups have a hole on the handle, and you push that rubber bit through the hole on each cup, and it holds them all together.

Every mystery, no matter how elusive, carries within it the potential for resolution. It is the persistent curiosity and tenacious pursuit of truth that illuminate the path to uncovering even the most enigmatic of secrets.
