20 Women Who Picked the Wrong Stylist and Got Disastrous Results

Picking a stylist often feels like a shot in the dark because even if their “result” photos look flawless, we don’t know the whole story behind their transformations. These days, however, some clients decided to share what happened the day they accidentally fell into the wrong hands and got an unexpected makeover at the salon.

  • The first and only time I dyed my hair, I ended up with a yellow shade because the amount of dye the beautician used wasn’t enough. My hair was practically bleached, not dyed. When the woman realized she didn’t have enough dye, she prepared more, but the color was different this time. It was my worst beauty salon experience. I now laugh about it, but at the time, it was horrible. When they dried it, my hair turned different shades of yellow. © Johana RodRiguez / Facebook
  • When I was about 13 or 14 years old, my aunt’s classmate’s daughter, who was going to beauty school, was asking for volunteers. I was excited and said yes. One day, she took me to where her teacher and classmates gathered. I wanted her to pluck my eyebrows because they were very thick, and I wanted them to have a shape. Big mistake.
As soon as she told me she was done, I was in horror: she had removed 90% of my eyebrows. I was in shock; they looked like just two pencil lines. I got home, and the only solution I could find was to get bangs. My hair is super wavy, and I had to straighten it every day, but it concealed my eyebrows. I had bangs until my eyebrows grew back again. © Dámaris Calizaya / Facebook
  • I have wavy hair. Once, I went to the hairdresser for some golden highlights, they untangled my hair, then took out the highlights. Each time they pulled my hair was the worst torture ever. The color turned out yellow, and my hair became dryer than ever. This was a month ago, and my scalp still hurts. © Heyce Tabares / Facebook
  • I went to have my hair dyed black to cover my gray hair. I noticed that the woman kept looking and looking for something. Then she mixed several tubes — I think they were her leftovers. As I went to pay, I asked her if she had dyed my hair black. She told me: “I dyed it dark brown because the color goes well with your face and features.”
Well, I went out into the street, started walking, and saw myself in a window. My hair was blonde... but I was already blonde! That woman never saw me again. It’s been years since I started dying my hair at home. I learned my lesson. © La Mas Linda / Facebook
  • I went to a hairdresser many years ago to have my hair straightened. They kept me sitting in one of those swivel chairs for about 2 hours. Since the woman didn’t have an iron, she took all my hair, pasted it onto my head with tweezers, then sprayed it, and covered it with a cap. To make things worse, the lady’s grandson kept turning me around in the chair, as if I were a game piece. • In my case, I had blonde hair, and I wanted it to be ash blonde, but the stylists left it green. I was enraged and told them to fix it right away, and instead of trying a chestnut shade, they dyed it black. • My mom used to cut hair at home. She had a little space for her business. One day, late at night, a girl wearing a hat came to have her hair cut. My mom told her: “Come tomorrow, it’s too late now, and I’ve already closed because we’re going to bed.” But the girl kept insisting. She wasn’t a regular client, and this was the first time we had seen her.
My mother told her to take off her hat and tell her what haircut she wanted. When she took it off, we saw her head was a mess. Some spots looked bald, others were long, and she looked terrible. My mom told her there was no solution and that she would have to shave her head, so she wouldn’t look so bad and so her hair would grow out evenly. According to the girl, she had that fiasco done at a beauty salon. The haircut kept getting worse and worse until it reached the point of no return. © Mayra Morales / Facebook
  • I used to cut the ends of my hair from time to time, and I always went to the same person. One day I arrived at the hairdresser’s, and that person wasn’t there, so someone else took care of me. I had very long hair, which almost reached my lower back. I liked it long, so I told the guy to cut the ends, a couple of inches at most. He cut too much. When I saw my hair was at my shoulders — I almost passed out. I felt miserable and angry and never went to that place again. © Caro Janel / Facebook
  • It happened to my son. He dyed his hair blue, and it turned out very well — he was happy. But the next day, he woke up with red dots on his skin and puffed up like a toad. He turned out to be allergic to peroxide. A month later, he went to the doctor, and the nurse liked how his blue hair looked. Then she asked him if he was allergic to anything. My son said yes, that he was allergic to the peroxide from the dye and that he realized it the day he dyed his hair. © Aled Zahe / Facebook
  • One day, my daughter and I went to our usual place, very excited about a makeover. My daughter is blonde, and she wanted red hair. The woman said: “It has to be bleached,” but that was a big mistake. She tried to charge us, and we complained, but she said: “If you want another tone that covers this, it will cost you. It’s up to you.” I think she did it with the evil intention of ruining her beautiful hair, but I’m sure that karma will take care of her. She would be gorgeous bald. © Ale Amaro / Facebook
  • I went to get my eyebrows waxed. The girl who took care of me was an apprentice. When she removed the wax, she pulled it back and left a hole in my eyebrow. She looked scared and called the owner, but no one said anything. I got up and saw it, and the girl began to cry — I even felt sorry for her. They gave me a pencil to color in my bald spot and taught me how to use it. Of course, I didn’t go back. © Victoria Galan / Facebook
  • I’m blonde. Once, I took a henna bath as I was told it would brighten my hair, but I ended up with carrot-orange hair. It took me weeks to get my natural color back. © Marisa Carretero Toledo / Facebook
  • I had naturally black hair and wanted it gray. I went to the hairdresser and came back with blonde hair. They couldn’t finish the process because the bleach burned my entire scalp, and I was crying in pain. The beauticians tested the product on me first, so they had to remove it fast.
I couldn’t just go home with my hair half-bleached, so they dyed it (while they applied the dye, I felt like they were throwing pure alcohol into my wounds). It turned out nice, but I didn’t get what I wanted, not even close. I came out crying. Now I treat my hair myself. Years later, I managed to get the gray I wanted. © Luciana Paola / Facebook
  • It took me 9 hours at the salon. I went for some highlights, but the stylists ended up dying my hair chocolate brown and then bleaching it. The highlights were not even noticeable because of my new hair color. In the end, my hair was very dry, and on top of everything, they cut it very short after I asked for it to be shoulder length. © Dla Cecy / Facebook
  • Many years ago, I went by recommendation to a well-known salon in my area to do the highlights I always had done. Many hours later, when we were almost finished, the hairdresser tried to be an artist and gave me a “bath of light” after the highlights. When the guy dried my hair, he was very pleased with his artwork, but when I looked in the mirror, I saw that my hair was a hideous egg-yellow color. I told him: “I won’t go out like this, fix this now,” and I was there for about 4 more hours, but I came out with a pretty decent blonde. © Andrea Evangelina López Rodríguez / Facebook
  • I wanted purple hair. It was black, but they told me it would stay purple. So they spent hours bleaching my hair. My scalp was burning. Ultimately, I got a yellow color, and my scalp no longer supported the dye, so I had to live with the yellow hair. Although I used a toner, it did not change color, and I was left with a few small lumps on my head that have healed and a very sensitive scalp. © Karo Lopez H / Facebook
