A Single Gay Man Makes History With the Birth of His Own Baby Boy via Surrogacy

Shaun Resnik is a single gay man from Melbourne, Australia, always calls his path to parenthood a “journey”. And, indeed, it’s a long and complicated journey no other father in his native state has ever experienced. Shaun is believed to be the first single man in Victoria, who received an approval to have a baby with the help of a surrogate. And here’s his story, which is now giving a bunch of hope to many people who dream about parenthood.

As a single gay man, Shaun was supposed to forget about fatherhood, but never did.

Shaun Resnik has become an outstanding personality in his area, by beating all odds and persistently fighting for his dream to become a father. The new dad has recently made history as the first single man in Victoria who became a parent via surrogacy. The arrival of baby Eli Michael has become an event of his whole life. It happened three-and-a-half years after Shaun started the process.

Around 100 babies get born via surrogates across the state every year. And people must get a government approval before they comply with Victoria’s strict laws. This makes the whole process almost impossible for singles. Shaun sincerely hopes that sharing his journey to fatherhood will open the door for other single people to fulfill their lifelong dreams and become parents.

The man’s journey deserves a separate book.

Shaun’s way to parenthood wasn’t all full of roses and fulfilled expectations. The man came out as a gay man when he was 24 years old, and he always realized that having a family for him would be far more complicated than for straight people.

When he was in his thirties, Shawn realized that gay people can have kids, but he didn’t hurry up with making decisions, because he was waiting for Mr Right to come his way. Shawn confessed with a lot of pity, that nothing scared his potential partners off more on a first date than speaking about kids.

The man’s single status did not prevent him from following his dream of becoming a parent one day. He even bought a four-bedroom house a couple of years before he even started the surrogacy program.

Shaun worked his entire life to be able to have a family.

The first serious difficulty that Shawn faced right at the start was the legal aspects of the program. Paid surrogacy is illegal in Australia and international surrogacy procedures weren’t an option for Shawn. The whole process was extremely long, and had many setbacks.

Taking part for years in the surrogacy program, Shawn finally met Carla, who became the woman who carried his son. The baby was conceived using an egg from another friend, Bree, who is already a mom of 2 boys of her own.

Shaun sincerely wants his son to meet both of the wonderful women, who helped welcome him into the world. His son has half-brothers already, and this makes Shawn even more excited.

One day, Shawn finally felt what it’s like to be a dad.

Mr Resnik went through a heartbreaking and challenging journey with three other potential surrogate mothers before Carla finally carried his child. His dream of becoming a dad became a reality, and he finally got a chance to hold his baby in his arms. Shawn can’t calm down his emotions when he speaks about the whole journey and the feelings he had as a new dad. But what’s more important for him is that he really made a statement with his experience.

Shawn feels happy that society has got to see single gay men as dads. The man is a vivid example of how a person always wanted to be a dad and even didn’t know how he was going to make it possible, but achieved the impossible heights at the end of his struggle.

Shawn’s life has changed forever, and now happiness is the right word to describe his routine.

Speaking about little Eli, Shawn calls his son “a good bubba”. The happy father shared, that, as long as there is a bottle in the boy’s mouth he’s calm, relaxed and chilled. But Shawn admitted that his son has a scream that will pierce his soul. Eli’s keeping him up at night and if Shawn wasn’t bald, he supposed he would have lost his hair already.

Time has passed after Shawn got to hold his baby for the first time, and little Eli is growing so fast. In his recent post, dedicated to the celebration of Father’s Day, Shawn posted lovely snaps of Eli and him, surrounded by a huge and loving family. It can be easily seen that Shawn is so much enjoying his fatherhood, and the photos seem to radiate hope for all single people out there, who really want to become parents, but like Shawn at his time, don’t know where to start from.

And here’s yet another heart-melting story about a single gay dad who adopted a desperately ill kid and raised an Olympic champion.
