In a move that’s got us singing with joy, Demi Lovato has made a sparkling change and switched up her pronouns from the fabulous they/them to the equally fabulous she/her! Demi is all about embracing her true self and letting the rainbow flag fly high. So let’s give a standing ovation to Demi Lovato, the queen of self-expression, as she steps into her own spotlight with a fresh twist on pronouns.

She came out as non-binary

Back in 2021, Demi Lovato came out to the world as non-binary in a heartfelt video, using the pronouns they/them. And she was one of the first to do so. Since then, many celebrities have felt comfortable to come out as non-binary, such as Janelle Monae.

Lovato opened up, candidly speaking about her decision to come out as non-binary and pansexual: “This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work. I’m still learning and coming into myself, and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.”

She changed her pronouns from they/them to she/her

She explained in an interview how she has been “feeling more feminine” recently, and so decided to change back to her original pronouns. She spoke about how “I’m such a fluid person when it comes to my gender, my sexuality, my music, my creativity,” and she uses both “she” and “they” pronouns according to her Instagram page. She also explains how she sees herself as both queer and pansexual.

Lovato has explained what life is like identifying as non-binary, saying how: “Everyone messes up pronouns” and how after a while “it’s just all about respect.” And back in 2021 she said herself, “There might be a time where I identify as trans, I don’t know what this looks like for me. There might be a time where I identify as non-binary and gender non-conforming my entire life.”

Lovato is clearly very open and comfortable with her gender identity, as are more and more celebrities over the past few years. They have been welcomed with open arms, leading the way representing the LGBTQ+ community.
