From Onscreen Couple to Marriage Goals: Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s Love Story Was Written in the Stars

Falling in love with your co-star is not uncommon in Hollywood. Take for instance Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell or Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, both of these couples instantly fell for each other while working together. That’s what makes Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher different from their celebrity peers. It actually took them 14 years to go from meeting for the first time to becoming a couple, and here’s their story.

We at Bright Side love a cute romantic tale and we prepared a real treat for you all this time.

They weren’t just on-screen lovebirds, he was also her first kiss ever.

That ’70s Show brought Mila and Ashton together in 1998, but their age difference was bigger at the time. Kunis actually lied about her age to get on the show. So instead of an 18-year-old girl playing the love interest of 20-year-old Kutcher, they ended up with a spunky 15-year-old. Mila impressed everyone so much that when her real age came out, they didn’t want to let her go.

The bright-eyed young actress not only got her first serious acting shot on the show, but she also went through a major milestone. Kunis revealed that Kutcher became her first kiss, and she was happy about it too: “I had the biggest crush on him.” Ashton found out about this after the scene was shot: “I’m the first guy she kissed? Oh my god, I had no idea! I’m so glad I didn’t know that or it would’ve been too much pressure.” Who knew back then that Mila’s first kiss might possibly become her last.

They both had to mature emotionally, before finding their way back to each other.

Ashton and Mila continued to work together, but nothing romantic ever occurred while they were colleagues. Instead, they both found love with other people and faced major heartbreak. In 2005, while still working on the show, Kutcher married Demi Moore, who is 16 years his senior. Their relationship lasted for 6 years until Moore found out that Ashton was unfaithful and demanded a divorce.

Kunis’ first big relationship was with the Home Alone star, Macaulay Culkin. They started dating in 2002 and, for Mila, it was a time to learn how to love in the spotlight. She didn’t want to discuss their relationship in the press and made it clear that she is a private person: “We don’t talk about it to the press. We’ve been together going on 7 years because we don’t talk about it. It’s already more high-profile than I want it to be.” In 2011, Kunis and Culkin confirmed their break-up, the very same year Kutcher’s marriage was over.

They reconnected in 2012, but he almost let her slip out of his fingers again.

Mila and Ashton were bound to reconnect, especially in their post-heartbreak era. They kept in touch through the years, even when they stopped working together, until one day they finally came face-to-face in 2012. Kunis recalled: “Then I ran into him at an award show, and at first I was like, ’Wow, that guy’s really tall.’ Then he turned around and I went, ’Huh!’ That moment you hear or see in movies where your heart skips a beat — and it happened with Ashton.”

Kutcher was actually very excited to see Mila again and immediately invited her to a party at his place. Funny thing is that, initially, his intentions weren’t what Kunis had expected: “I found out later in life that my husband tried to set me up on a blind date with one of his best friends that night.Destiny truly had other plans for them and the 2 became a couple just a few months after running into each other.

They finally let things run their course, and everything escalated quickly.

Once Mila and Ashton made things official, it seemed like they were trying to make up for lost time apart. Within 4 years of making their relationship public, the couple managed to get married and have 2 children. Kunis gave birth to their firstborn daughter Wyatt in 2014, which was before they became husband and wife, and their son Dimitri was born in 2016.

The couple are perfect for each other in the sense of appreciating privacy. They didn’t make their marriage public until a year after it actually happened. Kunis said, “It was something that didn’t have anything to do with anybody else.” So that was them, quietly making babies, making a lifelong commitment, and, most importantly, being happy. Mila admits that not a day goes by without her husband putting a smile on her face: “I will say he makes me laugh every day.”

They’re each other’s best friends and don’t take their happiness for granted.

It’s been over 2 decades since Ashton and Mila first met, and today, they seemingly fit together like 2 puzzle pieces. Kutcher adores his wife and knows exactly how lucky he is to be with her. As he once praised her in front of a giant crowd: “I prize her as the most valuable person in the world to me.”

Mila also says that there are benefits to knowing each other for so long: “I literally can’t lie to him... There’s nothing we don’t know about each other, because we’ve known each other for so long: the ugly, the bad, the good.” She also added: “It truly is being married to your best friend. That’s a cliché, it’s cheesy. But it’s true.” And that’s what makes them work.

Did you watch Mila and Ashton on That ’70s Show? Who are your other favorite onscreen couples that became real?
