Jennifer Aniston Doesn’t Understand People Who Get Famous From Social Media
Jennifer Aniston isn’t a fan of influencers. In a recent interview, the Friends-star criticized how easy it is to be famous today and how it’s taking away the value of an actor’s job, in a way. Her opinion hasn’t been well-received by everyone.
The actress voiced her opinion on a chat with fellow actor Sebastian Stan.
Jennifer Aniston recently sat down with Captain America-star Sebastian Star for an in-depth conversation on all things related to their careers and the Hollywood industry, part of a Variety YouTube series. During the interview, the 54-year-old actress touched on the subject of people being “internet famous” and the rise of online influencers.
“I always say I feel lucky that we got a little taste of the industry before it became what it is today, which is just different—more streaming services, more people,” she said and went further, expressing how she thinks fame in the digital age is negatively impacting actors. “You’re famous from TikTok. You’re famous from YouTube. You’re famous from Instagram,” she added. “It’s sort of almost like it’s diluting our actor’s job.”
Many of her fans didn’t agree with her comments.
Aniston’s comments sparked a debate on social media, especially on Twitter, where the Friends-star fans expressed their own views. “I love Jen, but I don’t get this mindset at all,” one user wrote. “You spent the 90s marketing yourself at parties and auditioning for roles. They spent their time posting videos or selfies and marketed themselves on social media.”
Other people touched on the fact that Aniston’s dad, John Aniston, was already a veteran in the entertainment industry when she got her start. “Nepotism is just not being the norm anymore,” someone else tweeted. “A lot of people who came up during her time had a relative in the industry. Their parents were wealthy, or they hung out with the children of celebrities. That’s how she got her foot in the door. Her dad was an actor.”
Some Hollywood stars have changed their life in a way that allows them to be away from the headlines and from the spotlights for any given time. Kevin Bacon is an example of that. After a financial disaster where they lost “millions,” the actor and his wife moved to a farm.
