8 Parenting Habits of Famous Moms Who Are Reshaping What Parenthood Is All About

The life of celebrities always sparks a certain curiosity, admiration, and sometimes even envy in us. However, they face the same challenges as we do when it comes to raising children. Many have different parenting habits, which can contrast with those we follow.

1. Jennifer Garner

The 50-year-old actress had three children with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck — two daughters aged 17 and 13, and a son aged 11. Jennifer has raised them in a very traditional way, but with a special focus on nutrition.

In an interview, she mentioned being very strict about junk food and does not allow it in her home. “I’m not worried so much about junk food because we don’t have it in the house — although I don’t want to be a freak about it. It’s more than you just want to make sure they’re getting a rainbow of flavors and of foods.” Due to this concern, the actress created a line of healthy food.

2. Candace Cameron Bure

Candace Cameron is an actress who became famous as part of the cast of Full House when she was just a child. She later appeared on several reality shows and starred in dozens of family-friendly movies. She is the proud mother of three children, who are now teenagers. She mentioned in an interview that despite her multiple occupations, she takes time to raise her children in a very traditional way.

“We set firm boundaries, but there is always love and grace. I’m the mom that needs to meet the parents before my kids can go to a new friend’s house. I want to know who they’re with, where they’re going. Even now that they’re driving, I want them to text me when they arrive and when they’re heading home. We work hard to keep our communication open and talk through any situation. I am always willing to listen. But, I don’t always say ‘yes.’”

3. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman, in addition to being one of the most renowned actresses in the world today, is a very strict mother when it comes to screen time and access to social media for her two younger daughters.

In an interview, she spoke about how she keeps her girls away from cell phones. “They don’t have a phone, and I don’t allow them to have an Instagram. I try to keep some sort of boundaries.”

4. Julia Roberts

Since welcoming her three children, Julia and her partner have kept their lives as private as possible, and for years they did not expose them on their social media or any red carpet.

When talking to a newspaper, Julia explained: “It’s interesting trying to raise kids in this day because it’s all so new — the pressures, the resources, having the world in your hand like that.” She then added, “I try to keep them off social media because I don’t really understand what they need that for right now.”

5. Viola Davis

Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis has shared that she and her husband, Julius, are determined to raise a daughter who is not spoiled.

She said her number one fear in raising her daughter is ensuring that she is “accountable for everything she does.” She avoids spoiling her by helping her to stay grounded with things like clothing. “I do shop at Target. I buy all her clothes at Target or H&M.” She doesn’t let her daughter get carried away by fame or become dependent on their fortune.

6. Penélope Cruz

Penélope Cruz and her husband, Javier Bardem, are very strict with their two children about social media. In an interview, she explained:

“I really do see that as protecting their mental health, but I seem to be part of a minority. I feel bad for the ones who are teenagers now. It’s almost like the world is doing some kind of experiment. There is no protection for them, for their brains that are still developing, and how that affects the way they see themselves, [...] so many things that are not the childhood that we had. My children can only watch some movies or cartoons.”

7. Pink

Pop singer Pink has declared that she doesn’t want her two children to be defined by labels, so she has decided to raise them with a gender-neutral approach. She said in an interview: “We’re a label-less household. Last week, Willow told me she is going to marry an African woman. I was like, ‘Great.’”

In addition, she sees herself as both a mother and a pre-teen boy. “I’m much more of a mom than anything else. Absolutely, 100%. They’re my everything. They’re the best two decisions I’ve made. I take my son to school and try to be on time... I’m an adult now, it’s so weird. I’m still a 12-year-old boy.”

8. Gwyneth Paltrow

The film star was heavily questioned by many people, including nutritionists, who lashed out against the carbohydrate-free diet she provides for her children, which she shared in her cookbook It’s All Good.

The revelation caused a debate about whether this is beneficial for children. “Everyone in my house is intolerant of gluten, dairy, chicken’s eggs, among many other surprising foods,” the actress defended herself.

What styles of parenting that could be considered strange have you tried with your children, or have your parents tried with you?
