20+ Men Who Were Against Adopting a Dog but Are Now Best Friends With Them

In childhood, persuading parents to get a puppy seemed like an uphill task. It was especially difficult to get approval from the father who always had 1,000 reasons why the appearance of a 4-legged friend in the family was not a good idea. One of the most popular ones were: shedding fur, barking, gnawing on furniture, and wasting time and money. However, once that little fluffball appeared, our fathers and husbands somehow instantly forgot all about their list of inconveniences.

We at Bright Side are sure that there’s a place for a dog in the heart of the strictest man. And the characters of our article who were once totally against adopting an animal just prove this to be true.

1. “Dad then: ’Dogs are too much responsibility.’ Dad now: ’The dog is my favorite family member because he goes to the park with me every morning.’”

2. “I’m allergic and have asthma! It doesn’t matter if he’s hypoallergenic.”

3. “Meet my husband who never wanted a small dog. Now he sleeps like this every night.”

4. “Dad said 2 dogs was enough. Here he is with the third dog Mom brought home without asking.”

5. “I (his daughter) can’t even sit here.”

6. “’I can’t believe you brought home a dog without telling me. You know I don’t like dogs that much.’ 10 years later and he carries both dogs to bed every night...”

7. “My dad, who did not want me to bring my dog with me when I moved back home, comforting my pup post-surgery”

8. “That dog will never get on that bed!”

9. “’No, we aren’t getting a puppy. I don’t want a puppy. I won’t like it. I won’t walk it or pay any attention to it. No!’ Fast-forward to ’C’mere, Dada’s big boy! Let’s watch TV and snuggle!’”

10. “Someone claimed he didn’t like her.”

11. “My dad would never admit how much he loves our old dog. But after finding this picture on his phone, he doesn’t have to.”

12. “First he said no dogs at all, then he said especially not pit bulls or big dogs in general. Fast-forward to today and my dad has had a professionally built 6-ft fence around their entire backyard for my dogs.”

13. “It took 3 years to convince him since ’he’s more of a cat person.’ He finally agreed as long as the pup wasn’t allowed on the bed. This is now what I wake up to every morning.”

14. “I want nothing to do with this stupid dog. He’s your responsibility.”

15. “Here’s the photo of Nico and my dad, caught red-handed.”

16. “I’m a cat person,” he said. Now it’s always: “Where’s Penny?! I need Penny! I can’t sleep without my doggy!”

17. “He never wanted a dog. 4 days after they met, she helped him to recover from a stroke.”

18. “My boyfriend with the puppy I spent almost a year trying to convince him to get — now I think she loves him more than me!”

19. “Dad and the dog he didn’t want”

20. “A few weeks ago she wasn’t allowed on the couch. Now she’s allowed ’but only so she can keep my lap warm.’”

21. “My dad, 3 years ago: ’If we get a pitbull it will kill us in our sleep!’ My dad now:”

22. From “the dogs are not coming up on the bed” to “we need to get a king-size bed so they can sleep next to us.”

Are there people in your family who didn’t want a dog at first and are now inseparable?

My best friend hated and i mean HATED dog hair and used to say "how messy must be having a dog in the house, I would never own one"... Guess where he is sleeping now... half of the bed is still his, fortunately... the rest? American pit-pull rescue alert? oh yes hahha

We've got nothing to hide. Except this comment.

My dad resented dogs. A neighbour brought a little puppy back home a couple years ago. The said neighbour was never really around to take care of him, so I raised the puppy like my own. So whenever my dad was around the dog would be the very first and last thing he saw everyday, cos he waited at the door for him each day. The neighbour had to move eventually and dad was short tempered and snappy for a whole week?, although he still wouldn't admit he learned to love the dog. Now he talks about getting another puppy, but I still think he's uncomfortable with the idea of replacing Charlie?
