10 Celebrities Shared Their Secrets to Losing Weight, and We Can All Take Notes
Losing weight is never easy. You have to spend hours at the gym, watch your calories, and say goodbye to your favorite cookies. And although it seems like celebrities always look perfect and manage to stay fit all the time, they actually have to go through the same struggles of losing extra pounds just like all of us.
We at Bright Side gathered secrets revealed by 10 celebrities who got into shape and now look even more irresistible.
1. Adele
One of the world’s best-selling music artists started making headlines with her impressive weight loss in 2019. Adele shared that she focused on exercising, but she’s not a fan of diets. “I do my weights in the morning, then I normally hike or I box in the afternoon, and then I go and do my cardio at night. No intermittent fasting. Nothing. If anything, I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard,” she said.
2. Christina Aguilera
The singer and actress took a break from work to focus on her family and a healthier lifestyle. “It’s a lot of stagnant energy sitting in a chair for 3 years, and I was excited at the chance I got to finally have a break to spend time with my son and do things that fulfill me,” she shared. “Honestly, I feel like when you get a moment to just breathe and experience life, especially as an artist, it’s hard to sit down and not be an artist for a while and not be a mom.”
3. Kelly Osbourne
The “Drop Dead Diva” star shared that she was struggling with her weight and body image for a long time. “I was called fat and ugly in the press almost my entire life...it broke my heart and ruined my self-esteem,” she revealed.
Osbourne believes joining Dancing with the Stars was a turning point in her weight loss journey. Her partner, Louis van Amstel, supported her both on and off stage. “He made me eat turkey burgers and salads and explained to me that a high-protein, low-carb diet would keep me energized,” the singer said. “Then I started losing weight and realized, ‘Oh, it’s true what they say: diet and exercise really work!’”
4. Melissa Joan Hart
The Melissa & Joey actress said she lost 2 dress sizes since giving birth. She said her husband, a musician, Mark Wilkerson, helped her get into better shape. “My husband is really into fitness, and I’ve always been big into working out. He’s very supportive and gets me out for runs here and there to keep me active. My boys keep me active as it is,” she shared.
5. Khloe Kardashian
The reality show star said her breakup with basketball player Lamar Odom motivated her to look her best.
“I was having a hard time with Lamar. It was toward the end of our union, and there was so much drama. I needed a release. At first, it was so hard. It was baby steps, but I started feeling so much better. The first 45 days you’re exhausted, you’re sore, and I actually felt fatter because I was swollen. If you keep going, you’re eventually like, ’Wow, is that an indentation on my arm?’” she said.
6. Melissa McCarthy
The award-winning actress admitted she had a hard time finding designers to dress her for red carpet events. Eventually, she decided to just change the way she thought about her weight, and that’s what worked for her better than any diet. “I truly stopped worrying about it,” she shared. “I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.”
7. Jimmy Kimmel
The TV host and comedian admitted his approach to losing weight wasn’t healthy at first, but it worked for him. “I started drastically, as I do with everything. I decided I was going to have 2 protein shakes and a very small dinner every day. I did that for 8 weeks, then I switched to a strict 2,000-calorie-a-day diet. I lost 25 pounds that way.”
Kimmel said he’s under pressure to look fit and is worried about keeping his weight under control. “I definitely feel pressure to keep slim. I don’t want to be the guy who lost weight and gained it all back,” he said.
8. Kirstie Alley
The Veronica’s Closet actress said she never had weight problems until she gained a lot of weight over a short period of time. “I spent my whole life thin, then one summer I probably gained around 40 or 50 pounds. Honestly, I didn’t know how fat I was. Thanks to the tabloids, I went, ’Girl, you’re fat!’” she said.
Alley posted on her Twitter account that dancing and eating healthy helped her get into shape: “No surgery, no flippin’ lasers, no starving. My products, organic food, dance. End.”
9. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
The reality television star, like most new moms, struggled to find time for regular workouts. She believes exercising with your baby is a fun way to get back in shape. “So I basically try to go to the gym all the time and train with my trainer and do cardio as much as possible. If you can’t make it to the gym, you can always work out with your baby,” she said.
10. Raven-Symoné
The award-winning actress and singer said it was hard for her to eat healthy when she was working long hours on set. “I didn’t understand that all I could have was 12 almonds when there was a plate of doughnuts! I was addicted to that Thanksgiving feeling of cleaning your plate,” she recalled.
Working out regularly eventually helped her to lose weight, but she refuses to admit that being slim should affect how you feel. “People say, ‘You look so pretty!’ But I was pretty before,” she said. “Whether or not I’m this size, I always preached, ‘Be comfortable with yourself,’ and I will preach that forever.”
