8 Celebrities Who Won’t Be Going Back to the Met Gala Again

When the Met Gala was first launched in 1948, it was just a fundraiser for the newly founded Costume Institute. In recent years, the event has been attended by hundreds of famous celebrities who are asked to dress based on a specific theme. But not everyone likes the magnitude and the whole attitude of the event. Some celebs have publicly said that they wouldn’t attend again or that they have been banned from attending.

The singer wasn’t shy about revealing her uncomfortable experience when she attended the Met Gala. She felt quite awkward and did not enjoy the company of a certain celebrity. “This one celebrity was very mean and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to leave.”

2. Gwyneth Paltrow

The actress spoke publicly against the event even though she chose to attend it twice after that. It didn’t seem that she had an issue with the themes, but her complaints were mainly about the conditions. “It seems like it’s the best thing in the world. You always think, ‘Oh my god, it’s going to be so glamorous and amazing, and you’re going to see all of these people,’ and then you get there, and it’s so hot, and it’s so crowded, and everyone’s pushing you.

The actress hasn’t been banned from the event or and she didn’t have a terrible time the last time she attended. She just assumes that she won’t be invited back after the comments she made about Kim Kardashian’s appearance in 2022. “I don’t think I’ll be invited back. I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress.”

After the event was over, she continued on her Instagram page, saying, “To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month all to fit in a dress? So wrong. So messed up on 100s of levels.”

4. Zayn Malik

The singer attended the event back in 2016 alongside his then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid. However, in 2018 he expressed that he wouldn’t want to go back again. “Now it’s not something I would go to. I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet to do the self-indulgent ‘look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

5. Tina Fey

The lovely comedian had no problem expressing her dislike for the event and saying that she would never attend it again. “Every person you know is there, wearing, like, some weird thing. I dragged my husband along with me, which I’m still in trouble for. Everyone is there, everyone. Clearly, I will never go again.”

6. Amy Schumer

The comedian wasn’t impressed at all by all the lights and cameras and said that she absolutely disliked the event. It wasn’t easy for her to network with all these celebrity attendees. “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce. I don’t like how we’re dressed up. I have no interest in fashion. I don’t care.”

7. Quannah Chasinghorse

The indigenous model with Han Gwich’in and Oglala Lakota heritage didn’t enjoy her first time at the event. She really did feel like she didn’t belong there, and as she shared, “I remember standing there and looking at everyone and feeling so alone. Like, really, really lonely. No one knew me. No one cared to ask. People are there for themselves, and it shows.

8. Tim Gunn

Tim Gunn had no problem telling the world that he was banned from the Met Gala by Anna Wintour herself. “It is very true. It is a crazy story, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very matter-of-fact story. I was asked what the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion was, and I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down 5 flights of stairs by 2 bodyguards—2 big hulking men—from a fashion show.’ It was insane.” Ever since they’ve been in an open conflict.

The legendary designer seems to dislike the direction the Met Gala has taken in recent years. “The only thing about the Met that I wish hadn’t happened is that it’s turned into a costume party. It used to just be very chic people wearing very beautiful clothes going to an exhibition about the 18th century. You didn’t have to look like the 18th century, you didn’t have to dress like a hamburger, you didn’t have to arrive in a van where you were standing up because you couldn’t sit down because you wore a chandelier.”

However, later that same year, he also showed his agreement with those who choose to wear over-the-top outfits. “You know, it’s a moment to express your individuality. And if people wanna be over the top, they should be over the top.”
