Some people think that money can spoil a person, but we are sure that it is nothing like that. They simply show their true colors. Someone will create a better life for their family with a generous hand, and others will quarrel with their relatives over every penny of inheritance.

  • I broke the screen on my phone. My boyfriend said he’d take care of it. He’s a man. So we went together to buy a screen.
The seller tells the price, my boyfriend reluctantly reaches for his wallet... And then he puts it back! There’s a silent pause, I hand over the money myself. Then I broke up with this guy. I told him we were just different. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I lent a female coworker a certain amount of money before the salary. And she didn’t want to pay back the debt, always pretended that she couldn’t remember. At one point, I lost my patience and turned on the “evil uncle” mode. I approached her during lunch and said bluntly, “Valentina, when will you return my money?” She smiled sweetly and replied, “Money? And I thought we were friends.” © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • I inherited a house from my aunt near the city. It is small, just ordinary brick on the outside. But inside there is a gorgeous interior, in which everything is well-thought-out: furniture and appliances, harmony and color style.
I moved in and realized that in my stretched-out home dress with Mickey Mouse, I don’t fit into this beauty. Now I’m walking to buy a silk dressing gown with lace. Home dress code, so to speak. © Overheard / Ideer
  • When I turned 18, I was to get a check for 18 years of precap with interest. 6 months before my 18th birthday, my aunt quit her job and started working at a small 5 location credit union. She asked me to move my accounts there to help her meet quotas since she just started and would do joint accounts so I could get the benefits too.
10 months later, I thought she had a better job and was reaping the benefits when she started to remodel her house and spend her nights at the bar. I didn’t think anything of it because she was my aunt and had a decent job. When I went to change banks because I was moving across the country, she told me she already withdrew the money and I couldn’t get it and since it was a joint account there was nothing I could do about it.
The worst thing about it was that she claimed it was what my mother wanted and was in her will. Then, when disproved, said she deserved it more than me. © K****r_Tomato / Reddit
  • My great-grandmother willed my mother the house in the village. The great-grandmother had 5 sons, and all the sons had several children each. But the house was bequeathed to the only granddaughter.
Part of the family was indignant. In the end, in order not to offend anyone, the grandparents forbade my mother to sell the house. Mom obeyed. It’s been 20 years, the house has fallen apart, nobody needs it.
Only one of the great-grandmother’s sons survived. The grandsons and granddaughters scattered across the country. But if my mom had been allowed to sell the house then, it would have been possible to get a good price for it. There were even people ready to buy it.
With that money, my parents would have been able to buy a flat. And we lived in a dormitory room then. In the end, this house is just an expense now. And nobody needs it. Nobody even needs this land in the village. © Landysh Khairutdinova / ADME
  • A friend has 3 sisters — triplets — 12 years younger. They all lived in a one-bedroom apartment. But after they were born, their father left the family. A year ago, the father died, and his 4-bedroom flat was inherited by his sister. She started renovating it right away.
And a couple of months ago, she came to them and gave them the keys and documents from this flat with the words, “This is my brother’s child support for 10 years.” © Anecdotes from life from anecdotes.net / VK
  • Many years ago, my father won a car. His mother, who kicked him out at the age of 15, immediately showed up with a demand to sell the car and give half the money to her son-in-law (the husband of the youngest daughter). My father refused and drove that car for many years.
But when his mother died, that very sister came running with a demand to give up his share in the inheritance. All the relatives on my father’s side are like that — they are ready to fly at your throat for money, so I cut off all contact with them and I have no regrets. © Anna Tiedt / ADME
  • 2 years ago, my friend married the daughter of a local millionaire. Very quickly, this guy limited his communication with me. Once I met him in town.
How disgusting it was to look at this changed man. He even began to talk arrogantly and nastily. I said I was happy for him. I guess he'd always been like that, but the money was the catalyst. We said goodbye.
But recently he called and started spilling his problems over the phone. It turns out that his wife began to cheat on him a year after the childbirth. He was faced with the fact: either tolerate it or go away. He put up with it at first. Then his wife began to humiliate him, saying that he is nothing and lives at the expense of his father-in-law. And that was the truth.
And now he can't even see his child. He lost his money, car and flat the day after he had a fight with his wife. © i###########@gmail.com / y-story
  • My husband's parents died and left a flat. His sister refused the inheritance, but with the agreement that the brother (my husband) sells the flat, and shares the money in half. While the documents were being drawn up, she almost had a nervous breakdown. Every day she called him.
And all because she got it into her head that I was persuading my husband to embezzle all the money. We've been married for 8 years, we have a child. I had no intention of getting involved in their inheritance. The flat was sold, we gave her 50%. We haven't spoken since. © Martha Brachman / ADME
  • My in-laws started renovating their room and sold the cows to do it. My husband's sister showed up and wheedled more than half of the money from her parents for herself. She is married, lives in a good house, and her husband has his own grocery shop.
When she comes to visit her parents, she doesn't bring presents, but bags of complaints and whining. She's never worked. My mother-in-law says, "I can't say no to my daughter!" © Linia Vosk / ADME
  • I’m 17 years old. Recently, I found out that my father left me a large sum of money as a trust. I couldn’t believe it, as the amount was huge. It turned out that when he became terminally ill, he decided to leave most of the money to me. At that time, he and my mum were no longer living together.
Of course, my mum found out about the money and went to a lawyer with her new husband, demanding that I give some of the money to my stepsiblings. Mum said, “That would be a generous act on your part, as your father was selfish to leave it all just to you.” I refused to share, and my mum and her new husband got angry and accused me of being selfish. © Beginning_Jaguar9693 / Reddit
  • My mom is a rich woman. So, my dad hit the jackpot when he married her. A huge country house, a big apartment in the city center and a business, all inherited from my grandfather. The cool car my dad drove belonged to the company, so he didn’t have much of his own over the years.
He recently found a mistress who thought he had a lot of money. She hoped that he would get a quick divorce and take her somewhere, like the Maldives. My dad, inspired by love, decided to get a divorce, but since all the property was inherited, he was left with only a small amount of money.
With this money, he came to his mistress and proposed to live together. But it turned out that she didn’t like this arrangement, so all her crazy love for him immediately dissolved. Now he is calling my mom, begging her to take him back. © Overheard / Ideer
  • One day I went to the ATM and was surprised to find that someone hadn’t taken out $300. I was broke at the time, so I thought, “This is definitely a sign!” I decided that I would spend it on my education and do that every time money falls on me from the sky.
I spent that 300 on a simple programming course. Since then, I have followed this principle: if I find money, I spend it only on my development — no entertainment and toys, only education and self-improvement. But since then I have never found anything else. © Caramel / VK
  • My husband and I have been married for 31 years. We live on a farm. We have always helped my husband’s parents, but for some reason his sisters think we owe them something too. I inherited a large amount of money from my parents, and now my husband wants me to use the money to buy a house for his sisters.
I don’t understand why I should spend my inheritance earned by my parents on his sisters. I want to put the majority of it in trust funds for our 2 children so I can pass it on to them. And to be honest, I am seriously thinking about just taking my inheritance and getting a divorce and living happily ever after. © Feeling-Savings-1462 / Reddit
  • I’m a property lawyer. A man I know lost his father the other day. He left a lot of real estate and businesses where he was the CEO or founder. There were many children left from various marriages, even illegitimate children who he had helped but wasn’t registered as their father. And then there’s the wife.
And now they all call me and consult with me on how to double-cross the other heirs. It’s disgusting. The man hasn’t been buried yet, and the relatives have already all quarreled trying to divide the property. © Graff2052 / Pikabu
  • When I was a toddler, my mom passed in a car accident. I had bonds given to me from family friends to help me later in life. My aunt who adopted me cashed all the bonds before I even finished elementary school, leaving me with nothing. © greenizz / Reddit
  • I am from a wealthy family, but I fell in love with a simple guy. We lived in full harmony. Dad’s friend got him a job with a big salary. Soon, my boyfriend said, “It’s hard for me to keep up with your needs.”
But it turned out he was in love with someone else. So I called my dad’s friend and the guy was sacked. Tomorrow, he’s moving back in with his mother from his rented flat. I don’t even feel sorry for him. © Overheard / Ideer
  • As long as I live, I am more and more convinced that relatives remain relatives until you start dividing the inheritance. After my mum died, my uncle demanded that we give him a plot of land that we had inherited. In the end — a scandal and the termination of all ties.
I thought I was just unlucky and was glad my husband’s relatives were normal. No way! His uncle is already dividing the property, although the grandmother is still alive! A friend’s relatives are suing each other for a piece of land. I’m shocked! © Overheard / Ideer
  • I have 3 flats and a house. One is mine, and the rest I inherited from different relatives. And I have a perfect life now: I have enough income from renting out my property to live comfortably. I can quietly do what I love, and not try to earn money.
I try not to brag my happiness in front of other people. I feel a little sorry that I have no relatives left, and somehow I am afraid that the happiness of my current life is more important to me than the loss of my loved ones. © Overheard / Ideer
