A 57-Year-Old Model Responded to Critics Who Called Her Desperate Grandma After Posting Bikini Photos

Paulina Porizkova, a former supermodel, found herself at the center of controversy after posting some bikini photos on social media. Despite looking stunning and confident in the photos, Porizkova was subjected to ageist comments. With some even going so far as to call her a “desperate grandma.” In response, Porizkova offered a powerful message about body positivity and self-love.
Her career started at a young age.

Paulina Porizkova was born in 1965 and began her modeling career at the age of 15. Porizkova has graced the covers of numerous high-profile magazines. In addition to her modeling work, Porizkova has also appeared in several films, TV shows, and music videos. In recent years, she has become known for her candid and insightful writing on topics ranging from beauty standards to grief and loss.
She has been very outspoken against ageism in our society and in her personal life.
At the age of 57, Porizkova has defied societal norms by continuing to model and post pictures of herself on social media in bikinis. She has been a vocal critic of ageist attitudes, saying, “I am a 57-year-old woman, and it seems to mean, in society, when you go into your middle age, you sort of lose your license to be able to show up in bikinis too.” Porizkova has also spoken out about the negative comments she has received, like that she is “a desperate grandma” or “too old to be doing this.”
Porizkova was married to Ric Ocasek, the late frontman of the iconic rock band The Cars, for 28 years. In an interview, Porizkova revealed that their relationship had its ups and downs and that they had been estranged for several months before his passing in 2019. She spoke candidly about the challenges they faced, saying, “I just noticed that we shared less and less, and we communicated less, and then he sort of stopped desiring me.”
Porizkova also shared that she had doubts about her own aging, saying, “Since I was hitting my late 40s and early 50s, I think I figured, maybe he doesn’t fancy me because I’m getting older.” Despite these difficulties, she still emphasized the love and connection that they shared, and has continued to honor Ocasek’s memory since his passing.
Porizkova wants women to celebrate aging.
Now she has become a vocal advocate for celebrating aging and embracing the natural process of getting older. She has spoken out about her decision to not undergo plastic surgery or cosmetic enhancements, saying, “My desire is to be an unaltered older woman.”
Porizkova has also expressed appreciation for the physical signs of aging, saying, “What I like about my face now at 57, it’s that it’s like a really good novel of the history of my life, like it’s all written into my face.”
In addition to her personal choices, Porizkova has also emphasized the importance of changing society’s attitudes toward aging. She has called for more women to embrace their age and showcase their accomplishments, saying, “We have to make older cool, I’m really trying, but we need more women to sort of embrace age and keep trumpeting it out there, going ’look at what I’m doing at my age.’”
Through her own example and advocacy work, Porizkova has become a powerful voice in the movement to redefine aging and promote self-love at any age.
