Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Reunite as a TV Couple in “That ’90s Show,” Bringing Us Sweet Nostalgia
The iconic sequel series to That ’70s Show, which ran from 1998 to 2006, made a comeback and was recently released as a series on Netflix with a new story and actors. However, the creators had an unexpected surprise for their fans by inviting old characters, including Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso and Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart, to make a cameo.
Now the couple is also married on-screen.
On That ’70s Show, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis played friends and romantic interests. The couple began dating after several years when the project finished, but according to their former colleagues, they already had a “spark” while filming the series. Kutcher and Kunis got married in 2015 and now have 2 children together — a daughter, Wyatt, 8, and a son, Dimitri, 6.
Although the actors ended up together in real life, in the original series, Jackie ended up with Fez (Wilmer Valderrama). However, in the sequel, it is revealed that she is now married to Kelso. Kunis had previously expressed her doubts about her character ending up with Kelso, but the opportunity to act alongside her real-life husband is probably a brand-new feeling.
Kutcher and Kunis are the true cherries on top.
All the actors who returned to the show, including Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Wilmer Valderrama, Tommy Chong, and more, bring us sentimental nostalgia, however, seeing Kutcher and Kunis again as Kelso and Jackie is the most joyful moment.
The creator of the show described this very well: “When Ashton and Mila came in together in that scene, I thought that was really the icing on the cherry on the sundae of this show.” The couple appears in one of the scenes coming into the Formans’ kitchen after it’s revealed that their son is now a friend of the main character and her love interest.
The actors admitted that this experience was totally different.
The experience of playing Jackie and Kelso in 2023 was vastly different than when they portrayed the characters on That ’70s Show. Ashton even commented that it was uncanny to return to those roles as a married couple in real life.
According to the creators of That ’90s Show, the actor studied his lines for the show on the couch in the Formans’ basement, which was also his routine while filming That ’70s Show. Kutcher fell asleep and woke up to see his wife, Kunis, dressed as Jackie again. The actor reportedly even felt disoriented and confused, sharing, “It was the strangest feeling I’ve ever had. I literally didn’t know [what year] I was [in] for a minute.”
Fans are extremely happy with this comeback.
People on Twitter who’ve already watched the new show were happy to see Jackie and Kelso back on screen. “This is exactly how I pictured a Kelso and Jackie cameo on this show. The characters are still the same. I was wondering if they would acknowledge them being married in real life and they did. They even threw a ’Damn, Jackie!’ in there. Ashton and Mila nailed this,” one person wrote.
Producers clearly found a way to their fans’ hearts, as another viewer gushed, “I love how even the character of Michael Kelso hasn’t changed. Like he’s the exact same way he was as a teenager in the original series. Ashton Kutcher still got it.”
