Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Emotional Plea to Anyone Who Has a Complicated Bond With Their Father
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the most successful and popular actors in Hollywood today. But before he became a global superstar, he was a wrestler who followed in the footsteps of his father, Rocky Johnson.
On Father’s Day, “The Rock” took to social media to pay tribute to his late father, who unexpectedly passed away in January 2020. In a heartfelt post, he not only honored his father’s memory but also shared invaluable advice to those who are still juggling strained relationships with their own dads. The actor shared his own experience of navigating a complex bond with his father, expressing his regret for not reconciling before it was too late.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shared the biggest regret of his life.
In a heartfelt video, Dwayne Johnson said, “I want to acknowledge all the fathers out there, like me, who on Father’s Day, don’t have the privilege of wishing our own dads Happy Father’s Day. We can’t call or text them or even see them in person, give them a hug, a kiss on the cheek and say ‘Hey, I love you, Happy Father’s Day.’”
He continued, “It’s especially tricky for those of you, like me, who had a tough love, complicated relationship with your fathers. They’re not here now and we wish they were. I do. I wish he was here one more time so I could say, ’Hey, I love you, thank you for raising me.’’”
Dwayne Johnson also expressed his joy in being a father himself and how it inspires him every day. He has 3 daughters: Simone, 21, Jasmine, 7, and Tiana, 5.
Dwayne Johnson then urged people who still have their old man around, even if things get a bit sideways at times, “Give them a call and try to reconcile that stuff. It’s a lot easier for me to say this because my old man is not here anymore. And as a man who’s experienced both sides of this coin, I can tell you guys that the alternative is something I don’t want you to experience.”
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed that he and his father got in the biggest fight, Christmas of 2019. They fought and they stopped talking. 3 weeks later, his dad passed away and that was it.
The wrestler-turned-actor never had a chance to say goodbye to his father and make things right with him. He suddenly found himself having to write the eulogy for his dad’s funeral. Because of this, he asked people to take a shot and try to improve their bond with their dads.
He added, “To all the people out there that don’t have a dad, their dads are up there, just like mine, hopefully, they’re proud of what they see. I love you guys, Happy Father’s Day.”
Rocky Johnson was a WWE Hall of Famer and a trailblazer in the wrestling world.
Rocky Johson retired from wrestling in 1991. Soon after, even if at first, he resisted his son’s desire of entering the WWE world, he eventually gave in and started to train him in order to kickstart his son’s own wrestling career.
Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson passed away at the age of 75, from a blood clot that traveled from a deep vein thrombosis in his leg. He passed in the home that his son bought him in Lutz, Florida.
Rocky Johnson taught his son everything he knows. He raised Dwayne to always be proud of his roots and of who he is. Although he was raised with the toughest of love, when Dwayne grew up, he understood his dad had complicated sides that needed to be “held and understood”. That’s when his adoration for his father turned into respect and his empathy turned to gratitude.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is making his late father proud, not only through his successful career but also by being a prime example of how fatherhood should look like.
