Hilary Duff Explains Why She Drank Her Placenta in a Smoothie
Eating your placenta after giving birth may increase your energy and help you bond with your baby. Although there are some risks associated with consuming placenta, many moms choose to have it turned into capsules. Hilary Duff, the famous actress and singer, took this trend a step further by adding her placenta to a delicious fruit smoothie.
It helped her recover faster.
It usually takes some time for a woman to bounce back after giving birth. The actress believes that adding her placenta to a nutritional smoothie helped her heal faster.
“They say that it stops your body from hemorrhaging after you have a baby. They say that it gives you all kinds of energy and nutrients and [it] helps balance your hormones and stuff like that,” she explained. “A woman can grow a temporary organ. And then you can eat it,” she added.
She enjoyed the experience.
While the idea of eating your placenta might sound off-putting to some people, Duff said consuming it in the form of a smoothie was quite tasty. “It was the most delightful smoothie I’ve ever had. I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was ten. It was calorie-filled with juice and fruit and everything delicious,” she shared.
She didn’t want to turn her placenta into pills.
Many women who want to eat their placenta after giving birth opt for making pills out of it, but Duff wasn’t keen on this idea. “I heard something weird about the pills. I heard placenta burps are not ideal,” she said.
She explained her decision to her older son.
The star even turned some of her placenta into ice cubes to add them to her drinks. She mentioned that her older son, who was 6 at the time, asked to see these cubes. “He was like, ’I wish I hadn’t had asked,’” the actress shared.
