What Can Happen If You Start to Take Baths Every Day

Our bodies are made up of 60% water, and it’s only natural that spending time in a tub of water has health benefits. Even though you probably don’t have the time or desire to make it a regular habit, taking baths has both mental and physical advantages. And it is highly advisable to spend time sudsing up in your bathtub 2-3 times per week. However, if you have any skin conditions or allergies, consult your doctor first before making any changes to your habits.

We at Bright Side know how crucial it is to maintain your health, so we made a list of bathing benefits that can improve your overall well-being.

1. It can help you breathe easier.

Spending time in a bath has a positive impact on your lungs and how much oxygen you take in, and if the water is warm and cozy, even better. This is because of the pressure that the warm water puts on your chest — the steam clears your pathways and sinuses and, as a result, makes it easier to breathe.

2. It can make you look younger.

You might think that your skin is dry because it doesn’t have enough oil, but this is not the case. Your skin searches for ways to maintain water, especially during the colder months — that’s why taking a bath helps your skin soak up the moisture.

Not only does bathing help with dry skin, but it also has anti-aging properties, such as bettering the skin elasticity, smoothing it out, and lowering the chances of getting wrinkles and lines on your face.

3. It may help with depression.

Even though there are many ways to treat depression in the modern world, the chances of getting help through standardized ways are lower and may have some side effects. That’s why it’s wise to try an alternative and natural way. You might even begin to feel better after taking only 5 warm baths!

4. It can help you sleep better.

If you take a bath an hour or 2 before going to bed, it can help improve your sleep, especially for people who struggle with insomnia or who are older.

Taking a hot bath can help you relax and feel less stressed, especially if your sleepless nights are impacted by anxiety. Baths are also good for your muscles to ease up and lighten any stiff tissue. Studies show that listening to music while in a bath can slow down your breathing and lessen your blood pressure.

5. It can relieve sore muscles.

You might think that the only way to relieve your sore muscles is to take an ice bath, but taking a warm bath can work too. Exposing your body to heat while your muscles are sore is a great way for them to relax, and adding some Epsom salts can improve the process of alleviating the pain.

While it is true that warm baths can boost your after-workout recovery, try not to replace stretching and cooling down with a bath — you may add it as additional support.

6. It can encourage you to be mindful.

To be mindful means to be fully aware and relaxed, and to clear your thoughts from any issues you may have. Baths can help you through this process of being at the moment, and they can also assist you in problem-solving.

What to do:

  • Create soft lighting in your bathroom.
  • Close your eyes and take deep breaths.
  • Ignore negative thoughts.
  • Stay in the tub for 20+ minutes.

Do you take baths on a regular basis? How often will you take them now that you’ve read of all the benefits?

I really hate bathes but I am in a lot of pain and have recently considered trying them with Epsom salts to see if it will help.
