This Unstoppable Mom Had 6 Kids and Wanted More, So She Gave Birth to Octuplets and Is Now Raising 14 Kids Alone
All parents may swear by the statement that there’s never a dull moment when you have a kid in the house. They fill our lives with so many different emotions, and they definitely have the super ability to keep their parents busy. A mom of 14, Nadya Suleman, has this joy multiplied by more than 10, and her story gives people a real variety of feelings. We’d love for you to get to know this true super-mom today.
Nadya Suleman became a real record-breaker in 2009.
Natalie Denise Suleman (born Nadya Denise Doud-Suleman) is known as the Octomom in the media. This is all due to her giving birth to the first surviving octuplets in January 2009. She since has gained international attention and now there’s even a term, “Suleman Octuplets,” which describes this phenomenon.
The woman conceived the octuplets and her 6 older children by way of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Before the time the octuplets came into her family, Suleman already had 6 children.
The woman wanted more kids in her life.
Suleman began her IVF treatments at age 21 in 1997. She was supervised by Dr. Michael Kamrava throughout the entire process.
In 2001, she gave birth to her first son, Elijah, and in 2002, she welcomed her first daughter, Ameerah. The woman didn’t stop her IVF treatments and soon she had 3 more pregnancies, resulting in 2 more sons, Joshua and Aidan, and one set of fraternal twins, Calyssa and Caleb.
After all the procedures, Suleman had a total of 6 children: 4 sons and 2 daughters. But the mom didn’t stop there, and in 2009, she decided to make another step.
Giving birth to octuplets was a real act of heroism.
In 2009, Nadya Suleman claimed that she had 6 embryos left over from her previous IVF treatments. She wanted all of the remaining embryos to be transferred into her uterus at one time. It was a very brave and challenging decision, as women her age would normally have a maximum of 3 embryos transferred.
When she finally gave birth to octuplets, she became an international media sensation. Public opinion, however, was mainly negative, and Suleman even started receiving threats. The mom wanted to independently support her children and was planning to return to school to complete her master’s degree in counseling.
Back then, Suleman shared her maternity experience in an interview. She said, “I don’t get much sleep, but I’m used to that. Once one of the kids gets up, they all get up. Some nights I don’t sleep at all or as little as half an hour. On good nights, I may get up to 2 full hours. The longest I’ve gone without sleeping is 72 hours. It’s hard, but I’m continuing to move forward with my life and trying to be the best mother I can be.”
Today, the big brood is happy and thriving.
Today, Suleman is not only a happy mom of 14, but she scored a deal for a reality TV show in the UK. Being busy with her kids, she does share updates on her Instagram and posts photos that are quite amusing.
After seeing the photos of all her kids, people can’t believe how fast they’re growing up. Suleman is never tired of praising them in every possible way. She says, “You are all becoming some of the most kind, selfless, caring human beings I have ever known.”
On her forty-seventh birthday in July 2022, the woman melted the hearts of fans, showing just how caring her kids are. She celebrated the special day with all 14 of her kids, and a few of her youngest children surprised their mom with a homemade marble cake, donut balls, and lasagna.
“This is all that matters to me, family and the love we have for one another,” she says.
