After her breakout role in the live-action film Transformers, Fox won an online poll and was named as the world’s hottest woman by a magazine in 2008.

The actress, who just turned 37, is also known for her daring outfits that show off her incredible figure. She was also recently featured on the iconic swimsuit cover of Sports Illustrated.

Fox may exude confidence but in reality, she feels the opposite.

In her interview for the sports magazine, she opened up about a disorder she has been struggling with. “I have body dysmorphia,” she bravely admitted.

Body dysmorphia is a health condition that causes a person to think about his or her perceived defects and flaws, even if they are barely noticeable. It can cause embarrassment and anxiety, especially in social situations.

“I don’t ever see myself the way other people see me. There’s never a point in my life where I loved my body. Never ever,” she added.

Fox also spoke about going through a psychological breakdown after being stereotyped in a certain image because of her role in the movie Jennifer’s Body.

“I didn’t want to be seen in public at all because (of) the fear, and the belief, and the absolute certainty that I was going to be mocked.”

She said her insecurities started at a young age, and they continue to this day.

“When I was little, that was an obsession I had, that I should look this way,” Fox shared. “And why I had an awareness of my body that young, I’m not sure.”

“And it definitely wasn’t environmental because I grew up in an environment where bodies weren’t even like, acknowledged,” she added.

Her physique may have gone through some transformations over the years, but her feelings about her body did not change. “I have a lot of deep insecurities,” Fox said.

She also opened up about trying to love herself more.

In 2021, Fox shared her thoughts about how our perceptions of other people could be wrong. “We may look at somebody and think, ’That person’s so beautiful. Their life must be so easy.’ They most likely don’t feel that way about themselves.”

The actress also got real about the struggle of accepting one’s self. “The journey of loving myself is going to be never-ending, I think.”

At the end of the day, Fox wishes that people would look beyond the physical and see her for who she truly is. “What I most want people to know is that I’m a genuine soul who is hoping to actually belong to something and not always have to live as a misunderstood outcast.”

Body dysmorphia also occur among male celebrities. Even the “hottest man alive,” Robert Pattinson, revealed that he experiences pressure to fit into a certain body ideal. And this notion affected the way he wants to present himself to the public.
