A wedding dress is the most important outfit in every woman's life, let alone the princesses-to-be, queens, and duchesses, with millions of eyes waiting for their appearance. Inspired by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's romantic wedding, we decided to look back at the best royal wedding gowns from the past century to today.

Bright Side wishes the newly-married couple happiness and a long life in peace and harmony. Let's look back at the iconic royal weddings of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II), 1947

Elizabeth's wedding gown was embellished with silver flowers, dotted with 10,000 seed pearls and had a 15-foot train. The main thing is that it turned out to be a lucky dress. On November 20, 2017, Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary (70 years since they got married). This royal marriage is the longest in the world's history.

Grace, Princess of Monaco, 1956

American actress Grace Kelly wore a gown made by Helen Rose, an MGM costume designer, when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco. After the wedding, Grace became the Princess of Monaco and to this day her wedding gown inspires a lot of brides.

Diana, Princess of Wales, 1981

Princess Diana's wedding dress made it into history as one of the most famous wedding gowns in the world. It was made by the little-known designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel. The dress was covered with lace, a lot of pearls, and had a spectacular 27-foot train.

Princess Rania (Queen Rania of Jordan), 1993

In 1993, Prince Abdullah, now King Abdullah II of Jordan, married a common woman, Rania. Today Rania is considered to be one of the most beautiful and stylish queens of our time. For her wedding, Rania preferred a European-style dress to the traditional wedding gown of Jordan. It was embellished with rich gold embroidery, typical for the Jordan royal style.

Queen Letizia of Spain, 1998

News anchor Letizia Ortiz chose a crisp white gown with a 15-foot train for her wedding with Crown Prince Felipe of Spain. The cuffs, hem, and neck band were hand-embroidered with parts of her husband's crest - ears of wheat and little fleur-de-lis. A long train and a family tiara, a gift from the groom's mother, complimented the dress.

Sarah, Crown Princess of Brunei, 2004

Sarah Salleh married Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah in 2004. The bride was 17, the groom was 30. Sarah wore a blue gown with a traditional pattern and rich gold embroidery.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, 2005

For 35 years, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles waited to tie their fates. Camilla walked down the aisle in a blue-gold damask dress with gold embroidery. The bride's dress was accessorized with a striking gold feather headdress.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, 2010

On her wedding day, Princess Victoria wore an elegant dress without any unnecessary details. She also wore a show stopping tiara - one of the major heirlooms of the Swedish royal family. A gorgeous cascade wedding bouquet completed Victoria's amazing look.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, 2011

In her choice for a wedding gown, Catherine followed the British royal family tradition that goes back thousands of years - a long train, veil, and classic line of the dress. Her gown was decorated with flowery lace appliques in the form of the main British symbols - rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock.

Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan, 2011

Jetsun is the wife of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the 5th King of Bhutan. They married on October 13, 2011 and the wedding was performed in accordance with the complicated rules for a Buddhist ceremony. The couple is often referred to as the 'Will and Kate of the Himalayas.'

Charlene, Duchess of Monaco, 2011

Charlene chose an ivory silk wedding dress with embroidered flowers from Giorgio Armani. To create such a wonderful wedding gown with a 16-foot train, the designer needed almost 265 ft of silk organza, 165 ft of satin, 40,000 Swarovski crystals, and 20,000 mother-of-pearl teardrops. The bride's bouquet sketch was made by Armani as well and was implemented by florists.

Princess Claire of Luxembourg, 2013

On September 21, 2013, Prince Félix of Luxembourg married a common woman, Claire Lademacher. The bride wore a beautiful Elie Saab wedding dress made of white lining covered with lace and a long train.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, 2018

On May 19, 2018, Prince Harry and his bride, American actress Meghan Markle, were awarded the royal titles of the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex. Meghan opted for an exquisite white off-the-shoulder dress with 3/4-length sleeves. Her look was complemented with a 16-foot train decorated with hand-embroidered flowers. The creator of the dress is a British designer Clare Waight Keller, Givenchy's creative director.
