7 Years After She Passed Away, Carrie Fisher’s Final Movie Is Finally Coming Out
Carrie Fisher finished shooting a movie just 6 weeks before she suddenly passed away in 2016. After a 7-year difficult journey, the movie is now set to be released on June 23, 2023. In an interview, the director of the film detailed some of the challenges it faced and recalled precious moments with Fisher on set.
The film’s premiere was delayed due to visual effects’ issues.
The fantasy film, Wonderwell, was the last project Carrie Fisher worked on. After a “perilous” journey, it’s seeing the light of day at long last. Director Vlad Marsavin recently talked about the problems it faced up until a debut date was set. “The visual effects on a movie of this magnitude takes time, [...] and of course the passing of our wonderful Carrie Fisher,” he explained. “Now is the perfect time to share her magical on-screen moments as Hazel.”
The director also went on to fondly remember the Star Wars-star and her time on set. “Carrie was full of energy during filming and even celebrated her 60th birthday with us in Italy where we shot the movie,” he recalled. “After a night shoot, which went on until 2am, she invited the whole team to celebrate with her and the party ended up being shut down by the police because it was deemed a little too loud. Her passing was very emotional for the whole team.”
Fisher plays an enigmatic character named Hazel.
Wonderwell is set between modern-day Italy and an imaginary realm. The story follows Violet, a curious 12-year-old girl, and her thrilling, life-changing adventure. Along the way, she crosses path with Hazel, portrayed by Fisher, who takes her to a mysterious portal that gives her a glimpse into her own future.
This isn’t the first time movie fans have had to wait a long time to see their favorites return to the screen, even if for one last time. In 1986, Val Kilmer played Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in Top Gun and, despite his health issues, he reprised his role in the sequel Top Gun: Maverick. But he wasn’t the only one who has recently made an iconic comeback to our screens.
