1. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip saw each other for the first time in 1934 at the wedding of Prince Philip’s cousin, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark to Elizabeth’s uncle, Prince George, Duke of Kent. 5 years later, they bumped into each other again, and rumor has it, it was love at first sight.

They fell in love with each other and wanted to get married. After years of correspondence, Philip proposed to Elizabeth with a diamond ring. The diamonds were taken from a tiara that belonged to his mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg.

2. Prince William and Kate Middleton

The college sweethearts have been married for 11 years now and are parents to 3 beautiful children. The 2 had been a couple since 2003 before Prince William got down on one knee to ask Kate to be his wife.

The proposal took place in Kenya. He chose that country because it holds a very special place in his heart since it was the place his father took his sons shortly after their mother died, as he shared. During their stay at their private cabin, Prince William used Princess Diana’s sapphire ring while asking Middleton to be his bride. He also shared that he’s been carrying the ring for about 3 weeks.

3. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The world was blessed with Prince Harry and Meghan’s sweet moment when the couple stood in Kensington Palace’s garden to share the happy news. They later revealed how he proposed to his now-wife, Meghan — a proposal worthy of this adorable couple.

Prince Harry shared that he popped the question during a cozy night at Kensington Palace. They were roasting chicken before Prince Harry interrupted Meghan and got down on one knee to ask her to marry him. “It was just — just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic,” she said.

4. Mike and Zara Tindall

Mike and Zara Tindall first met during England’s Rugby World Cup-winning campaign in Australia in 2003. The news of their engagement came shortly after the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but it didn’t receive as much praise and attention.

The 2 were at home in their Regency townhouse, and Mike wanted to surprise his then-girlfriend: “I walked in there and got down on one knee with the ring. She was on the sofa, so that made it easier. I said, ’Will you marry me?’” Mrs. Tindall was then completely shocked, so she started laughing but eventually said yes.

5. Prince Andrew and Sara Ferguson

When they were children, Sarah and Prince Andrew used to bump into each other and even played tag together on a polo field. However, Princess Diana played a huge role in setting up Andrew and Sara, and they became friends and invited her to their wedding in 1981. After that, Princess Diana invited her friend to many royal events, where she and Prince Andrew connected.

Prince Andrew popped the question on his 26th birthday at Scotland’s Floors Castle, which is the spot where the couple shared their first kiss. He proposed with a custom-made white-and-yellow gold ring set with a Burmese ruby and 10 drop diamonds.

6. Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones

These 2 love birds had a quite adorable romance since they first met in 1993 during a tennis event. 5 years later, the Queen’s youngest child popped the question to his soon-to-be wife during a Christmas holiday on Windermere Island in the Bahamas.

The Prince got down on one knee and presented a white gold ring set with a 2-carat oval diamond and 2 heart-shaped gemstones. Some weeks after that, they announced their engagement to the world.

7. Prince Charles and Diana

Prince Charles made heads turn when he announced his engagement to the beautiful soon-to-be Princess Diana in 1981. The 2 met because the Prince was dating Diana’s old sister at the time, who encouraged their relationship.

Diana was welcomed by Prince Charles’ family, who encouraged him to pop the question. He eventually did one day when she was invited to Windsor Castle. The prince led her to the nursery room to pop the question. The future Princess burst into laughter, due to nerves, as she didn’t see it coming.

8. Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank

The lovely couple had been dating for 7 years before Jack got down on one knee to ask her to be his wife. Jack knew exactly when to pop the question — both of them were in Nicaragua enjoying a nice sunset when Princess Eugenie was shocked and started crying.

“The lake was so beautiful,” Eugenie shared. “The light was just a special light that I’ve never seen. I actually said, ’This is an incredible moment,’ and then he popped the question.” He proposed without a ring because he wanted the Princess to approve it first.

9. Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden has kept things very private when it comes to his proposal, but it must’ve been a magical time for both of them. The couple began dating in 2010, before the Prince and his beloved Sofia got engaged 4 years later.

The Prince was the one who designed Sofia’s gorgeous ring made of pavé diamonds, and the double split band also features more sparkling stones. Right after he finished the ring, he surprised her in the morning after she woke up, popping the question that would forever change her life.

10. Prince Frederik and Mary Donaldson

The Prince of Denmark had prepared everything to ask Mary to marry him. He scheduled the proposal to happen in Rome with a fantastic ring. He also planned the whole thing in order to be alone with her and enjoy that intimate moment.

“It just worked perfectly. Not just because I wanted to go down on my knee, but I did, it’s the right way to do it. And then I just said, ’You cannot say no, you must not say no, you’ll have to say yes.’ And then she said yes, and it was beautiful and happy. We were happy and just the 2 of us,” he said.
