8 Times Actors Revealed Curious Things That Happened on Set

Our favorite films and series have the power of taking us on a dreamlike journey over the span of a couple of hours or episodes. Yet we often forget that there are months of preparation behind the scenes of our favorite films. Sometimes the events that happen during the process of filmmaking are as astonishing or dramatic as the movie or show itself. And luckily, some actors are open to share them with us.

Bright Side can’t get enough of the mysterious and fascinating aura that surrounds life on set. We’ll share little-known facts about 8 cinema and TV classics revealed by the leading stars themselves.

1. She had a hard time during Friends because of her body type.

With her eccentric ideas and positive attitude, we couldn’t resist becoming attached to Phoebe Buffay, one of the main characters on Friends. But the actress, Lisa Kudrow, recently opened up about her life on set, saying, ’’Fittings were not fun.’’ The star, who’s 5’6“, said that her body type was “different” from her co-stars’ and that she was ’’bigger’’ than them, which made her feel uncomfortable wearing her character’s clothes at times.

2. The long working hours on Titanic made Leonardo Dicaprio miserable on set.

The love story between Jack and Rose is one for the ages, but it seems that making one of the highest-grossing movies of all time wasn’t an easy process. An interview has revealed that the leading actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, had complained about the film’s ’’arduous production and how miserable he felt.’’ Recently, Kate Winslet had also admitted that the shoot ’’wasn’t pleasant’’ for any of them, but that they ’’were all in it together,’’ even if the working hours were long.

3. Will Smith fell in love with his co-star while he was still married to his first wife.

While filming the comedy-drama, Six Degrees of Separation in 1993, Will Smith had revealed in his memoir to have fallen in love with his co-star, Stockard Channing, and remained in character while being off set as well. Smith, who was newly married at that time, had recently welcomed a baby boy, and his relationship with the actress, who is 24 years his senior, remained strictly professional.

4. The Friends reunion reminded her of the “hardest time” in her life.

We can only imagine how nostalgic and emotional it must have been for the 6 main characters of Friends to reunite on set after 17 years. And Jennifer Aniston admitted that having to ’’time travel’’ was hard. Moreover, the actress who portrayed the sociable Rachel Green for 10 years revealed that she had been suddenly reminded of the past and of ’’the hardest time’’ in her life, which must have reopened some deep wounds.

5. Anne Hathaway was pregnant during filming and none of her co-stars knew.

It certainly isn’t easy to hide a pregnancy while you’re surrounded by a whole crew on set. But Anne Hathaway revealed that she didn’t tell anyone she was expecting her second child when she was still in her first trimester. She went on, saying that as she progressed into her second trimester, she only shared the news with a couple of people while filming the 2020 movie, The Witches. She explained that ’’the costume still fit so I didn’t feel the need to tell anybody.’’

6. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did not get along on The Notebook set.

Despite being the main characters of one of the most popular and romantic love stories ever, it seems that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams had a rough start on the set of the 2004 film, The Notebook. As a matter of fact, they ’’were really not getting along one day on set, really not,’’ as was recalled by the film’s director. Gosling had even asked what it would take to replace McAdams with another actress. Interestingly enough, the pair dated for real from 2005 to 2007.

7. Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson couldn’t act together at first because of ’’too much chemistry.’’

Zooey Deschanel revealed in 2012 that she had ’’too much chemistry’’ with her co-star, Jake Johnson, from the get-go. This made the writers of the TV show, New Girl, ’’keep them away’’ from each other. As a matter of fact, both characters were meant to fall in love gradually over the seasons, and the fact that the 2 actors portraying them had such a special bond from the beginning went against the script.

8. She had a panic attack on set because of an iconic scene.

In the iconic scene of the 2011 romantic comedy, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Ryan Gosling’s character had to lift Emma Stone into the air in an idyllic setting that could make any heart flutter. The only problem was that Stone had ’’an internalized phobia of being lifted over someone’s head,’’ which was exactly what the scene required.

The actress opened up saying that it returned memories of her childhood gymnastics instructor dropping her and causing her to break both of her arms. Luckily she was able to overcome it and this scene ended up being an essential part of the film.

Which of these secrets surprised you the most? Do you agree that an actor’s life is less glamorous and way harder than it might seem?
