An actor’s job involves playing different types of characters, but sometimes it just so happens that they share a lot in common with the person they portray. In a way, you could call it a perfect casting choice, as being able to relate to your character can make the actor’s performance seem more legit.

Bright Side was surprised to learn about the similarities these actors share with their fictional parts. They vary from personality traits to real-life ambitions.

1. Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle is a big foodie in real life, and this trait of hers was also written into the character she played on the TV show Suits, Rachel Zane.

2. Emma Watson

Emma Watson said that she related a lot to her Harry Potter character Hermione — when she was a kid, she was also eager to be a nerdy know-it-all, even if it was uncool. She is also a bookworm, just like Hermione.

3. Chelsea Peretti

The actress shares a lot of traits with Gina Linetti, a character she played on the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. For example, they are both brutally honest, can never go without their phone, and they even share a best friend: Andy Samberg, who played Jake on the same show.

4. Jenna Fischer

Jenna Fischer was also working at a reception desk before she became an actress and landed the role of Pam on The Office. The actress also noted that it took her a long time to figure out how to speak up for herself, just like her character did.

5. Amanda Seyfried

The actress played the role of Sophie in the movie Mamma Mia!, and she said she is similar to her character in that they are both “impulsive and scatterbrained,” trying to figure herself out.

6. Lea Michele

Lea Michele is a lot like her Glee character Rachel Berry: They are both extremely ambitious and share a love for fitness, which they use as a means to channel their goals.

7. Jake Johnson

While acting in the sitcom New Girl, Jake Johnson was allowed to improvise a lot. That’s how his character Nick became similar to what the actor is like in real life: for example, they are both not flashy and don’t want to be the center of attention. Moreover, his character Nick is a law school dropout despite having only 3 semesters left till graduation, and Johnson also dropped out to focus on finding things that he cared about (which turned out to be acting).

8. Kunal Nayyar

The actor played Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali on The Big Bang Theory, and recently he got the honor of getting a doctorate in real life. He now holds a Ph.D. in Humane Letters. The actor shared the news on his Instagram with the caption: “I never thought after playing Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali for 12 years, I would be honored with an actual doctorate in real life.”

9. Robert Downey Jr.

The actor and his iconic role, Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel franchise, are similar in some ways. They are both intelligent and passionate about technology. Downey Jr. is using technology to save the planet, just like his character: He is looking for a way robots can clean up the planet, which he thinks is possible to do “within a decade.”

What actors do you think have the same vibe as their characters? If you were an actor, would you rather play a character who is similar to you or is your opposite?
