It’s been more than 60 years since the American actress, Grace Kelly, married Monaco’s Prince Rainier III, but still, there are many mysteries surrounding this gorgeous woman. Recently, one of them was accidentally revealed by X-raying her wedding shoes.

We at Bright Side are interested in what secrets the princess’s shoes hide and studied this story thoroughly to finally share it with you.

How it all started

The couple met each other in 1955 when Grace Kelly arrived at the Cannes Film Festival along with the US delegation. While there, she was invited for a photo shoot with Prince Rainier III. The photo shoot kept getting delayed and postponed until May 6, 1955.

That’s when the prince first saw the American actress and instantly fell in love with her. Yes, it was love at first sight. The prince was hopelessly charmed by her beauty.

After 1 year of writing letters to each other and getting to know each other better, Rainier arrived in Philadelphia to propose to Kelly and ask her parents for her hand in marriage.

Though it was a hard decision for them to make since they realized their daughter was going to live far from them, they agreed.

Prince Rainier married Kelly in 1956. The first civil ceremony took place in the Palace Throne Room of Monaco. One day later, it was followed by a church ceremony, which took place at Monaco’s Saint Nicholas Cathedral.

Grace Kelly’s wedding dress was beyond gorgeous. It was designed by Helen Rose of MGM and 3 dozen people who continued to work on it for more than a month. It’s cited as one of the most elegant bridal gowns of all time.

Even now, as the dress is displayed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it’s reported to be the most popular exhibit there.

A secret is revealed.

But there is one more item that deserves our attention: Grace Kelly’s wedding shoes. As it turns out, they hid a secret. After experts decided to perform an X-ray on Grace Kelly’s wedding shoes, they found a round object under the insole of the right shoe.

This metal object was a copper penny that was sewn into Kelly’s right shoe. Experts believe it was put there for luck. The Princess decided to keep the tradition of hiding a coin deep inside the shoes and apparently asked the shoe-maker to conceal it from everybody’s eyes.

Did the trick really work?

Whether it was the hidden coin or the power of love, these 2 had a wonderful life together. They gave birth to 3 kids and lived happily for the rest of their lives.

What wedding tricks do brides in your culture use to attract good luck?
