“At the Center of My Life Is My Family and My Kids, Not My Career”: Eddie Murphy Is a Proud Parent of 10 Kids
We all know that having a successful career and being a loving, caring, and dedicated parent is tough for anyone. Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case with Eddie Murphy. Not only is Murphy a well-renowned and highly successful actor, producer, writer, and comedian, but he is also an attentive father to 10 children.
We at Bright Side were mystified by Murphy’s ability to simultaneously have a fruitful career and cater to the needs of his abundant family. And we hope his story will inspire you as much as it did us.
Murphy loves having a full house.
Murphy started his family back in 1989 when he had his first son, Eric. And as the years passed by, his family grew bigger and bigger. Fast-forward to almost 30 years later, and Murphy welcomed his tenth child, Max.
The mere thought of having 10 children can be overwhelming to many of us. But apparently, not to Murphy. He revealed that he likes it this way and is happy to have a full house. And in one interview, when he was asked if having 10 children was too much, he said, “No, that seems okay.” That said, maybe the actor’s family will never stop growing!
Even though they’re a blended family, they get along perfectly.
Having a blended family is not always rainbows and butterflies. But in Murphy’s family, there’s no drama or bickering, as Murphy makes sure that everyone gets along perfectly, including his children’s mothers.
Murphy revealed that they maintain the integrity of a growing family: “Everybody’s really cool with each other and it’s all love all the way around, everybody gets along, that’s a good thing. It’s a love fest at the house.”
Murphy loves his kids equally and is proud of each one of them.
He puts his children before anything else.
Murphy has made it his priority to keep his family happy, healthy, and taken care of. And he revealed that all he wants in life is to stay the person he is and spend as much time as he can with his family and the people he loves, saying: “My career, or what I am as an artist, that’s not at the center of my life. At the center of my life are my family and my kids.”
Murphy decided to put his career on second fiddle, and the years of filming 3 movies a year are long gone. “Along the way, I realized that if you put your children first, you never make a bad decision,” he explained. “When you hit a crossroads moment, you think, ’Well, what is best for my children?’”
Murphy is also a proud grandfather.
Not only has Murphy been blessed with his children, but he’s also lucky enough to call himself a grandfather. His son, Myles Mitchel, has carried on the family line by becoming a father to baby girl Evie.
Do you think having 10 children is too much? How many do you think is the “perfect” number?
