When we were kids, it was probably hard for us to think that our parents had a life outside our home, that their names were not “mom” and “dad,” and that, in addition to the work they did at home, they had another job. Celebrities sometimes decide to keep that part of their reality away from their children in order to keep their private lives out of the spotlight.

At Bright Side, we compiled a list of some of the celebrities who prefer not to tell their children what they do for a living and keep them away from cameras, so they can have as normal a childhood as possible.

1. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s children

The actress and singer have decided that they want their children to be children for as long as possible, so they have kept them away from the public eye to protect their childhood. Timberlake explained that he doesn’t want Silas and Phineas to be treated differently because of their dad’s career.

2. Tyler Perry’s son

Aman Tyler, age 7, didn’t know about his dad’s fame, as the actor has kept him away from the public eye. Perry revealed the tender moment when he explained to his son that he was considered a famous person.

“I asked him, ’Do you know what being famous is?’ And he said, ’Yeah, it’s when a lot of people know your name,’ so I said, ’You know, by that definition, some people think I’m famous.’ He goes, ’Really, can we finish coloring now?’”

3. Jennifer Lopez’s children

Jennifer Lopez revealed a few years ago that her twins didn’t care about her fame or that of their dad, Marc Anthony, even though they learned about their mom’s celebrity from school and by seeing her on TV.

“They know and have heard it at school, people tell them things like, ’Your mother is famous,’ or ’My teacher loves you and is a big fan,’ things like that. They know their dad sings, they’ve seen us perform, they’ve seen me on TV, on [American] Idol now. I don’t think they noticed before this year, and I’ve been doing it for 5 years! They don’t care. They don’t care at all. I tell them, ’Mom needs to work,’ and they ask, ’Why?’”

4. Neve Campbell’s children

The actress, who has appeared in films like Scream and House of Cards, said that her son, Caspian, has not actually seen any of her work because it is not suitable for his age. And although she hadn’t revealed to the little boy what she did for a living, one of the parents at his school did.

“He came home from school and said, ’Mommy, are you Neve Campbell?’ It was a very strange conversation. He really didn’t want me to influence him in any way.”

5. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ daughters

The actors currently have 3 daughters, James, Inez, and Betty, and although they form one of Hollywood’s most famous couples, they have kept their family away from public life.

“We want our daughters to have the same normal life we had. We don’t want to keep them from what we had because then we would feel really selfish.”

6. Adele’s son

Adele, who even carried her pregnancy discreetly, does not publish or share pictures of her son on her social media pages. She keeps him out of the spotlight, and he’s not even aware of his mother’s worldwide fame.

The singer noted that her little boy got excited when he went to a Taylor Swift concert because of the number of people there, as she said, “He used to come to my stadium shows for my rehearsals, and it was empty.” She noted that the first concert of hers that her son went to was “One Night Only,” where he sent her a greeting while she was on stage, as it was a special moment.

7. Zach Galifianakis’ children

The famous comedian explained that his children have no idea what he does for a living, and because one of his greatest hits is not suitable for minors, he has not shown them because “they need to mature a little before they see that.”

“My kids think I’m a librarian somewhere. They don’t even know,” he said.

8. Chris Hemsworth’s children

The actor, along with his wife, fellow actress Elsa Pataky, have 3 children together — India Rose and twins Tristan and Sasha — whom they have kept as far away from the world of fame as possible, so much so that not all of them are too thrilled with the role of the superhero he plays, Thor.

“When I come home from work, one of my kids, in particular, says to me, ’Have you fought any monsters, Daddy, have you?’ He knows Thor. But the other 2 aren’t impressed at all. They say, ’Yeah, my dad’s Thor, so what?’ That’s the line between what you see on TV and what your life is really like. At least one of them likes me. 1 out of 3 isn’t bad.”

9. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ daughters

Esmeralda Amanda, 7, and Amanda Lee, 5, are too young to watch the movies their dad works on because, as Ryan Gosling said, “They can sometimes have trouble telling when it’s fantasy and when it’s reality.”

He said that once, Esmeralda, his eldest daughter, accompanied him to the set of Blade Runner 2049, and while he was filming a scene where he was fighting with his co-star, Harrison Ford, she shouted, “You’re winning!”

10. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s children

Wyatt Isabelle and Dimitri Portwood are the couple’s 2 little ones, who have been photographed on different occasions due to their parents’ fame. However, Ashton Kutcher asked a few years ago on his social media to stop posting images of his children.

“They have not chosen a life in the public eye,” he wrote.

11. Gal Gadot’s daughters

The actress who plays Wonder Woman has 3 daughters with her husband, Yaron Varsano — Alma, Maya, and Daniella, who see her as their mom, not a world star.

“She doesn’t pay much attention. Even when I talk to someone about Wonder Woman, she tries any way to change the subject! But she’s certainly learned that every woman is a Wonder Woman. She literally says that, which I love,” Gal Gadot recounted about her eldest daughter, Alma.

12. Scarlett Johansson’s children

The actress has a 7-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy, and in 2021 she welcomed her second child, Cosmo. The actress, who plays roles like Black Widow, is discreet with her private life, so she does not have social media, nor does she publish pictures of her little ones.

13. Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser’s child

The actors have been extremely secretive about fame and their baby, who came into their lives in 2020, so much so that there are no public photographs of the child, nor is his name known. The media learned of the little one’s arrival due to a comment in an interview by Scott Patterson, with whom the actress shares screen time on Gilmore Girls.

14. Julia Roberts’ children

In 2012, the actress revealed that her children, Henry Daniel, and twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, didn’t know she was famous and even gave an anecdote about how, for them, what matters is that she’s their mom, not a celebrity.

“Someone noticed me, and then someone else noticed me. Someone said as we walked by, ’Oh, that’s Julia Roberts.’ We all moved on and then Finn said, ’Yeah, my mom is Julia Roberts.’”

What do you think it’s like to be the son or daughter of a celebrity? In what ways do you think their life is different?
