6 Reasons Why You Should Go on Your Honeymoon Months After the Wedding

Newlyweds often leave for their honeymoon right after their wedding reception is over, or maybe a couple of days later. However, this tradition seems to be ignored by many couples nowadays, who instead delay their trip for several months. While some might think that this is absurd, since the magic moment is gone, it might be smarter to take your time.

Bright Side did some research, and we have 6 very convincing reasons why delaying your honeymoon might be beneficial, plus a very interesting bonus.

1. There is more time to save up.

Weddings might just be the most expensive ceremony you will ever arrange for yourself. And many couples spend almost all of their savings for that special day, which means that a honeymoon will only weigh heavier on them. So, maybe it would be more practical and easier to postpone it for several months or up to a year. That way you will be able to save up enough money, so you are free to spend whatever you want and not whatever you’re left with.

2. You’ll be able to get more time off from work.

Many couples take time off work in order to get married and enjoy some free time before and after the day. Trying to squeeze in your honeymoon, as well, might leave you with only a few days for your trip. So, delaying it will mean that you will have time to gather all your paid time-off and leave for a longer amount of time. Maybe you can combine summer vacation with a relaxed honeymoon that you will never forget.

3. You will plan it without any stress.

The things you will need to plan for your wedding are already overwhelming and stressful. You don’t need your honeymoon as an additional thing to worry about. So, instead of putting so much effort into so many things during a certain period of time, you can spread them out. This way, you will have all the time you need in order to organize your trip as neatly as possible.

4. You’ll have something fun to look forward to.

Everyday life can get pretty hectic and tiresome, and your wedding is a big oasis in all that. So, it might be better to enjoy the aftermath of it for a few months before venturing off to your honeymoon. You will have something super exciting to look forward to in order to escape from your worries and reignite your love. You can look at it as an extension of your wedding festivities.

5. You’ll be more rested.

Having to plan a wedding and make sure that everything is perfect and everyone is happy during that day can be exhausting. So, leaving for your honeymoon the next day might add an extra layer of tiredness. It might be better to go back to normal life for a few months and then taking your exciting and rejuvenating trip. This small delay will keep you on your feet and give you enough energy to discover new places and dedicate time to each other.

6. You’ll be able to spend time with friends and family from out of town.

In most weddings, family and friends are coming in town from a different part of the country or even a different country. So, they might want to stay a few extra days to see more of you and get to know what’s going on in your life. Leaving before you have a chance to do that might make them feel sad, or you might miss on a great opportunity to catch up with them.

BONUS
The possible cons

  • You’ll get back to reality very quickly, and it might come as a shock to you. You won’t have those few extra days to relax and get back to work with fully charged batteries.
  • A delayed honeymoon might feel like a regular trip. The whole sensation of the after-the-wedding getaway might disappear, and it won’t be as exciting anymore.
  • You might de-prioritize it and end up having it 1-2 years later, or in some cases never. But, this is really something that as a couple you will have to work on and find the appropriate date.

Have you gotten married? And if so, did you go on your honeymoon right after the wedding or a few months later?
