7 Parts of Your Body You Should Never Get a Tattoo On, and Here’s Why
Tattooing has proven to be very popular over the last few years. Statistics suggest that 43% of people get it to honor their loved ones and 37% — for style. Still, doctors and tattoo artists suggest that there are some places that are not ideal to get tattooed.
We at Bright Side are all for decisions that we are not going to regret later. Here you can find 7 areas of your body that it’s better to avoid tattooing. There is also a bonus at the end of the article where you can find a pain chart for tattooing.
1. Elbows
Specialists don’t recommend getting a tattoo on your elbows because in this area it’s hard to make the ink stay. Moreover, the skin is very thick and needs a lot of knocks and bumps, meaning the tattoo artist will have to spend more time with the needle there. There is also a huge possibility that if you don’t moisturize your elbows, your tattoo will fade very quickly.
2. Armpits
The armpit is one of the most painful places to get tattooed. The pain can be very severe and the process will probably be unbearable for you.
3. Behind the knees
The area behind your knees is very sensitive and has many nerve endings. Each time that there is a knock and a bump (this is tattoo artist terminology that describes their needlework), you may feel extremely uncomfortable.
4. Hands and fingers
Yes, these are popular places to get a tattoo, but experts say that, first of all, it is not recommended to have tattoos on hands and fingers because this is an open area and sun exposure will affect your tattoo a lot, so it may fade fast. Besides, tattoos on the sides of the fingers often fade as soon as they heal.
5. Rib cage
It definitely looks awesome, but the pain of tattooing your rib cage is extremely high. It’s in second place after your armpits. Also, the healing process may take longer for women if they have to keep wearing a bra and their skin will be irritated all the time.
6. Face
Besides the sensitive skin and tons of nerve endings, tattoo artists say that tattooing on the face is only guaranteed for 2-3 years. Also, if you decide to get one on this part of your body, don’t forget about using sunscreen every day.
7. Ankles and shins
The ankle and shin areas are easily rubbed by shoes and socks. And for this reason, the tattoo can lose its bright colors very quickly. Also, in terms of pain, it’s about the same level caused by tattooing over the rib cage.
Bonus: Tattoo pain chart
Above, you can see a tattoo pain chart for men and women. The red zones are the most painful. The orange and yellow zones are less sensitive. The blue zones are the most painless.

It helps a lot! And SUCK IT to the people that think you must experience pain to have a tattoo! :-) LOL
But I agree that humans have a tattoo for a reason maybe bcos of their personality or the experience and their memories of an incident they want to embed in their bodies forever
