Priyanka Chopra Reveals She’s Been Body-Shamed and How She Overcame the Anxiety Related to It
While more and more people these days are working toward the acceptance and celebration of all body types, there are still some haters who constantly scrutinize others. And because they are continuously in the public eye, celebrities are often the target. Priyanka Chopra has recently revealed an incident she experienced that had a significant impact on her self-esteem and emphasized the importance of having a strong support system in such situations.
A hurtful comment thrown at her by a complete stranger
During the opening of the 2023 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival on Friday, the 40-year-old Citadel actress engaged in a conversation with Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios. The actress recounted a rude and disrespectful remark that was directed at her by an unknown individual.
“Someone told me yesterday that I wasn’t sample-sized,” the actress admitted. “I was hurt, and I discussed it with my family, and I cried to my husband, and I felt really bad about the fact that I’m not sample size, and most of us are not, and sample size is size 2,” she went on to explain.
She’s constantly been subject to disrespect.
The star admitted that the pressures she experiences are difficult to articulate, and she feels overwhelmed when the world seems to be criticizing her. She expressed that there have been instances where her words were misinterpreted and resulted in people making hurtful comments not only about her but also about her child and family members. “I think sometimes people forget you are even human,” she added.
The importance of having a strong support system
Furthermore, Chopra went on to suggest that the key is to have a support system of people who genuinely love and care about her, without any ulterior motives or expectations. These are people who simply want her to be happy and fulfilled. The actress added that there don’t have to be tons of these people, as she can count them on just one hand.
Husband, Nick Jonas, is her “champion.”
Prior to this event, Chopra has spoken highly of her husband, Nick Jonas, stating that the 30-year-old musician is her biggest supporter, calling him her “greatest champion.” She explained that Jonas builds her up and reminds her of her worth, especially during moments of self-doubt.
Moreover, the actress expressed how vital her family’s support is, including her in-laws, to her success, emphasizing that their presence in her life is crucial. “My family is my greatest, greatest strength,” Chopra stated.
She finally achieved pay parity.
Apart from her struggles with body image, Chopra revealed to Salke that she finally achieved pay parity with her male counterpart, while working on the upcoming series, Citadel. “It was the first time in my career...the first time in 22 years,” she disclosed.
