I’m 69 and My Wife Is 25, Family and Friends Have Turned Their Back on Us, but This Is a Real Love Story
“We get a lot of stares, because she is so young.” Joop Evers is 69, and he’s madly in love with his wife, Rona Evers, who’s 25. The couple has faced harsh criticism not only from society, but from their family and friends. Joop and Rona have taken to the Internet to tell their own story, and the reasoning behind their unconventional relationship proves true love doesn’t stick to numbers in a passport.
The 44 year age gap between the spouses is not something they even notice.
Romances with age gap are not a surprise these days. But such relationships still cause a stir and a raised eyebrow. There will always be naysayers who’ll insist there’s a motive behind the love story.
Joop Evers and Rona Evers have a 44-year age gap. They prove age really is just a number, saying that: “This is love, not a money scam.”
Joop comes from the Netherlands. But the man now lives in his wife’s hometown, Bacolod, Philippines. Their relationship is widely accepted there, and the duo can escape negativity and judgement.
The happy spouses faced rejection, but never betrayed their feelings.
Speaking about their relationship, Joop says, “It’s no problem for me or Rona, she is happy to have an experienced partner that is in balance and loves her the way she is.”
But the loving couple have lost family and friends. They now have to constantly prove that their love is legit, explaining that money has nothing to do with their relationship, and they’re just in love.
Joop explains, “Age is just a number. This is a real love story, not an attempt to get money or a green card. Rona has never asked for money unless it is to help other people who are in desperate need.”
The couple has to face many things from the society, too.
Joop revealed that when they go shopping together, they get “a lot of stares.” He supposes this is all because of “jealousy”. The man said that people have even made “jealous” comments on the internet about him and his beloved being together. “It’s a better life for her, but it’s also a better life for me,” he said.
Rona says, “My family has been so supportive of our relationship. Obviously, an age gap is a lot more normal in the Philippines, so they have always supported us no matter what. I don’t care what people say about us, I love him very much. We are good people; we love and care for people and just want that love back.”
And here’s a scientifically-based article that explains what is the ideal age gap for a couple to be happy and thrive.
