It may surprise some, but men have been wearing makeup for a big part of recorded history. Though this practice may not be as usual today, there’s a definite increase of interest in men’s cosmetics. It has even become a form of personal expression. Maybelline has recently attempted to break the social stereotypes, and their video of male models applying makeup has become a subject of a heated debate.

Maybelline used model partners to promote cosmetic products.

Cosmetics giant Maybelline has recently used men, some with full beards, to promote its new cosmetic lines.

The brand collaborated with makeup artist Ryan Vita, a ’Maybelline Partner,’ in promoting a new lipstick in a video shared on its Instagram page.

In another post, makeup artist Zak Taylor was also used to promote a new summer product of the brand.

The campaign immediately caused an avalanche of comments from netizens who slammed the brand for using men. One person commented, “Enough with these disturbing people’s posts!!!”

Another said, “Really don’t want to be seeing MEN doing makeup tutorials!!! Nonsense.”

Meanwhile, another added, “Do you really think we would want to buy these lipsticks after seeing this? I love Maybelline but can’t handle this.”

However, some users are totally on the side of the cosmetic brand. One user explained it all by writing, “For all of those offended, please do your research. Makeup has been worn by men for centuries for many different reasons in MANY cultures, including your forefathers. Maybe take a look at yourself and why you are so offended by it. Your discomfort is your problem, not the world’s.”

An actual study says men look more masculine when wearing makeup. We bet you’ll have your thoughts to share after you find out more.
