How Gwen Stefani Found the Love of Her Life at 46 After Dealing With Infidelity
“Love will find you when you least expect it.” That’s how the saying goes, anyway. And Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s love story is here to prove it. After both overcame difficult splits from their long-time partners, the 2 of them met through their shared passion for music. Falling in love with each other meant that they both needed to heal from past heartache and rebuild a new life together.
Gwen Stefani’s past relationships ended with heartache.
Gwen Stefani had her first serious relationship with fellow No Doubt bandmate, Tony Kanal. “I was in love and obsessed with Tony Kanal, and he knows that,” the singer recalled in a later interview. The 2 musicians dated for 7 years, but in 1994, Kanal broke up with Stefani. For the next few years, however, they continued to be in a creative partnership, even releasing songs that were inspired by their breakup.
She was married to Gavin Rossdale for more than a decade, but they got divorced in 2015.
Shortly after the split, Stefani met Gavin Rossdale, the frontman of the band, Bush. Although she was 26 at the time, Stefani was still living with her parents and Rossdale was only her second boyfriend. The 2 quickly fell in love and dated for several years before tying the knot in 2002, and they welcomed 3 sons to the world during their marriage.
Unfortunately, this relationship wasn’t much luckier for the singer either because after being married for more than a decade, Stefani found out that Rossdale was cheating on her. “I feel like I always wondered, ’Why did I get so unlucky in love? I have so much love in me,’” she shared in an interview.
Gwen Stefani met Blake Shelton while they were both judges on The Voice.
Just around the time that Gwen Stefani was dealing with the end of her marriage, she met country singer Blake Shelton in 2014. They were both judges on The Voice and got closer to each other in the following months as they both were dealing with divorce. Their love for music and unsuccessful past relationships immediately connected them, and the 2 musicians started dating in 2015.
Their passion for music instantly connected them, but they both had to deal with infidelity in their past relationships.
Although a spark between the 2 singers was instantly ignited, they also had to deal with their respective insecurities and trust issues. “She didn’t tell me much, because we didn’t know each other at the time, but she said, ’I’m going through something very similar to what you’re going through. I understand. And I hate it,’” Shelton recalled how his relationship started with Stefani. But Stefani and Shelton stuck by each other, managing to heal from their previous heartache together and releasing several duets throughout the years.
They both managed to heal and fell deeply in love, blending their families.
“So I think in a romantic way, when you fall in love so hard and so unexpectedly — and so late in your life — you think, ’I want to marry you!’ That’s the first romantic reaction, like, ’Let’s get married,’” Stefani explained as she shared how she and her would-be husband thought about marriage constantly but had to consider Stefani’s sons too. Thankfully, Shelton quickly proved himself to be a great stepfather, and he proposed to Stefani after 5 years of dating.
The lovebirds got married in a beautiful ceremony in the summer of last year in a country-themed wedding held at a ranch venue.
“All I wanted my whole life was to have babies and be married, like what my parents have.”
“My dreams were shattered,” Gwen Stefani said about her divorce from Rossdale. “All I wanted my whole life was to have babies and be married, like what my parents have.” But shortly after, she met Blake Shelton when she was 46, proving that heartbreak can lead to finding true love. And for Stefani, the dreams she once thought were forever lost, once again, became reality.
