Michelle Yeoh’s Unconventional Love Story: 19 Years of Being Engaged Before Marriage

It took over 3 decades for Michelle Yeoh to become one of the most prominent Asian actors in Hollywood. She’s even been nominated for a 2023 Golden Globe Award for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. And hopefully, it’s not the only thing she’s become successful at. After all, it looks like she won the jackpot in love as well, and today, we’ll try to unveil this part of her incredible life too.

It seems like it was love at first sight.

Michelle Yeoh and Jean Todt first met at a tournament in Shanghai back in 2004. They fell in love with each other and started dating shortly after that, getting engaged in 2005. Yeoh said that she adores Todt’s “stealthy sense of humor” and his blue eyes.

Well, at least it made her forget that, despite the fact that her new love was a French motor racing executive, she herself could not drive. “I’m hopeless,” said the actress. “I’ve taken my own license and put it in the safe.” Even so, she really admires Todt’s career and lifestyle.

They are still not married.

Despite their engagement, they’ve never said “I do” at the altar. Yeoh said that all this time they were quite busy juggling their many commitments and literally had no time to plan the ceremony they wanted.

They were thinking of finally tying the knot in 2022, but they still had to postpone it over and over again — they haven’t even set an approximate date for their wedding yet. “He counts the number of days rather than the years,” said Yeoh about her fiancé. She also joked that she asks him, “What is the present for 6,725 days?”

Todt has a son from a previous marriage.

Nicolas Todt was born in 1977 and decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He manages several different race drivers and also founded All Roads Management in 2023. Just like his dad, he continues to make a huge impact in the motorsport world.

And it looks like all 3 of them get along pretty well. Yeoh posts many of their mutual photos with captions like, “With my Todt boys,” and things of the like. It seems like Todt’s son not only makes his dad proud but Yeoh as well.

Yeoh was also married once before.

This wasn’t the first engagement for the 60-year-old actress either. She was married to Hong Kong businessman Dickson Poon from 1988 to 1992. However, the couple didn’t have any children of their own.

It’s actually Poon who introduced Yeoh to a career in entertainment. First, he helped her to appear in a TV ad in 1984. The actress was just 21 back then. Later, she acted in several films but put her career on hold while the couple was married.

But now, they are married.

Sure, they both take their careers very seriously and sometimes cannot see each other for weeks because of how busy they are. Yet they continue to share a sweet and loving bond, proving that sometimes that’s the most precious thing in the world.

And in a heartwarming celebration of love and commitment, the couple have finally sealed their union in a wedding ceremony. The delightful news was shared in an Instagram collection of pictures from the couple’s intimate wedding held in Geneva on July 27, 2023.

Michelle Yeoh, at the age of 60, defies the ageist norms that have plagued the entertainment industry for years. Her revelation about facing pressure to retire due to her age is a testament to her unwavering spirit and dedication to her craft.
