Let’s Compare 6 Air Purifiers and See Which Ones Are Worth Your Money

A device that can help you sleep better, breathe better, and reduce allergies? We’re definitely signing up for that. An air purifier works by sucking in unwanted particles through a filter and then circulating clean air back into the room. It can clear the air of dust, lint, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, pet dander, and odors.

Surprisingly, air purifiers have a long history, and they’ve been around since 1848. At first, they were used as personal filters to protect workers from toxic gases. Since then, air purifiers have advanced quite a bit and become widespread, so we compared the most popular air purifiers on Amazon to find out which ones are the best.

The most affordable

1. This air purifier is best for those who need to clean the air in a small room. This device is compact but does its job very well. You can place it on your bedside table and enjoy the clean air when you wake up.

Small, quiet, and easy to use!
This little guy is the perfect thing for a bedroom. Its small size does not make it lack in efficiency, as it works wonders for the air quality in my bedroom. My favorite part is the bedtime mode that allows the device to work for 8 hours with a dimmed light. Its quiet fans are barely noticeable and actually kind of relaxing if you enjoy sleeping with a fan. They also included a free replacement for the filter! What’s not to like about this purifier?! @CJ

Great value!
I have been using this air purifier for nearly 20 days, and so far, I am very satisfied with it. It is super easy to get your hands on. A single switch turns it to regular mode, night mode, and off. I like how the night mode will automatically turn off after 8 hours. I don’t need to remember to unplug it or set up timers. Also, even the regular mode is not loud. It’s similar to a ceiling fan sound. The size of the purifier is small, so I only use it in my bedroom. So based on the price, I’m willing to say it’s a 5-star purchase. @Tia

The most cost-effective option

2. This is a great product to test the air purifier technology for the first time and see if it’s right for you and if you should buy another one or a bigger-sized air purifier. This device is the best value for the money, as it can clean the air of pollen, dust, smoke, and pet dander, as well as be used for aromatherapy.

Happy buyers’ reviews:

Bought it to reduce my hay fever.
So, I suffer from bad hay fever, and this time of the year is quite unpleasant for me. I have read about all sorts of cures, and my brother-in-law mentioned that he has an air purifier that has helped him, so I thought, why not? So far, I am no longer waking up with a snotty nose or sneezing. I keep it on mode 2, which is a comfortable sound. You could say that it acts like white noise too. :)
It has a filter, although I have not checked how much a replacement will cost. The device also has the ability to add some fragrance. You can see from one of my pictures that there is a small round piece of fabric to which you add a few drops of essential oils. It’s very light and agile, so I can move it between rooms depending on where I am.
Overall, I am pleased with the purchase. If I were to upgrade, I’d probably get a smart device that I could connect to Google Home. But let’s see how long this lasts. @Sunil Chauhan

Well-made and lightweight.
What the bad reviews seem to communicate to me is that this mini air purifier is not made to replace cleaning. If a room is already very dusty, this will not resolve that. This purifier is perfect to use in conjunction with good cleaning habits. I use it in the evening in our office and in the morning in the bedroom, so I don’t have to open the windows anymore when it’s freezing outside, and I can still rest assured that the mold spores and other aerobic germs and dust are being removed from the air. @Tavia

The easiest to use

3. This is an all-around air purifier. If you don’t want to bother with extensive instructions on how to use the device, this air purifier is for you. It’s controlled with just one button, which allows you to switch the modes: low, high, and sleep. And it also has an aromatherapy function.

Item weight: 3.3 lb (1.5 kg)

Energy consumption: 6 W

Features buyers appreciated:

  • Switching out filters is very simple.
  • It works well at eliminating odors.
  • After the air purifier operates for an hour at high speed, you immediately feel a difference in the quality of the air.
  • It reduces allergies.

Cons to consider:

  • The sound from the air purifier will still be audible, even in a perfectly silent environment.
  • The electrical cord is short.
  • If you are sensitive to noise, it could be difficult to fall asleep, even with the “sleep” mode activated.

Happy buyers’ reviews:

Excellent product!
So I’ve been using this for 6 months now. I’ve finally changed the filters for the first time, and I am so impressed! As you can see from the pictures, it’s filtered out so much stuff. I probably should have changed it sooner, but don’t let anyone tell you that an air purifier is a waste of money!
It has definitely made a difference and lessened the strain on my body due to chronic illness. It’s fairly quiet on the high setting, but the sleep setting is great. Very gentle sound and no light. Easy to use and set up, and replacement filters are easy to come by. (Never used the aromatherapy pad; essential oils and cats don’t mix). It’s a neat little helper, and I’ve been very pleased with it this whole time.
I’ve just purchased a second one for upstairs. 🙌 @I Moore

Perfect!
I now have 3 of these in my home: one downstairs and one in each bedroom.
It makes a huge difference for my asthmatic son at night. He normally coughs through the night, but with this running, that stops. I also believe it has improved my sleep. The aromatherapy pads are a lovely addition and a great way to introduce a lovely fragrance or a “breathe easy” essential oil into your home. @purplebrasschick

  • The app makes it simple to set a schedule.
  • It lets you switch off the lights and activate features, like the child lock, remotely.

Cons to consider:

  • It makes noise when running on auto function and clearing the room of cooking smells.
  • At full speed, it sounds like a hair dryer.

Happy buyers’ reviews:

LeVoit Core 300s does the job.
The Core 300 air purifier’s installation instructions are clear and precise. VeSync is a great remote control app that is free in the Apple or Google app stores. Different modes are available in VeSync: night mode, auto, fan speed, etc. Level 3 fan speed is noisy; and the auto and night fans are whisper quiet. The VeSync will show you the air quality inside your room and outside (see photos). I recommend the Core 300s air purifier for a small room. @Randolph Kinney

I’ve used air purifiers before and am very pleased with this one.
I had a bigger air purifier in my room but wanted a smart one, so I bought this one. I’m very happy with it so far. The refill filters are reasonably priced, unlike many other brands. The app works well, is easy to control, and lets you see in real time what the air quality is. It feels like there is less dust in the air now.
On sleep mode, there is no light, and it is super quiet (almost too quiet as you wonder if it’s on). I like white noise, so I usually put it at a higher setting to sleep, so I can hear it. The timer function is great, as I have it set to turn on at 10 p.m. and turn off at 8 a.m., so it’s on when I sleep, and to be honest, you never need to worry about it again (until you need to change a filter). Would recommend. @Ashley S.

The best to eliminate odors

5. This air purifier has the highest positive rating on this list. It is suitable for small to medium-sized living spaces. It responds perfectly to odors and eliminates them efficiently, especially on auto mode, and it also has the Plasmawave technology, which helps get rid of bacteria and viruses.

Happy buyers’ reviews:

Great purchase!
This is a great little air purifier. It picks up on my pitbull’s farts (which is partly why I have it in my bedroom). It also picked up when I sprayed my bedroom door handles with disinfectant (3 kids’ flu season). It’s actually slightly louder than the Winix 5500, which surprised me but doesn’t bother me. For those who find it bothersome, there is a sleep mode where it runs on very low and the light indicator turns off. It’s slightly bigger than I was thinking; I guess I didn’t read the dimensions before purchasing. So far, I would buy it again. I’ve only had it for 1.5 days. The pen in the picture is for size reference. @Mom of 3

It’s less noisy than they say!
I love the Winix air purifiers in general, but I was a bit worried about the noise that people were talking about in the reviews. Indeed, for the first several weeks it seemed very loud — then I opened the bottom to clean the filter and found that the filter itself was still in its plastic wrap! As soon as I took that off, it was much quieter. :-D @PurelyMe

The best customer service

6. If you have furry friends at home, this air purifier is for you. Judging by the many positive reviews, it does an excellent job of removing pet dander and dust from the air. You can set it to auto mode, which will regulate the fan speed, and you can also monitor the air quality on the device’s digital screen.

  • It’s not too small.
  • Using a remote control is quite simple.
  • The customer service is amazing and willing to help.

  • It has the highest price on this list.
  • The power cord is only 4.59 ft (1.4 m).
  • Lights are fairly bright, but you can cover them with a sticker sheet.
  • There is no guidance on how to activate and deactivate the auto mode.

Happy buyers’ reviews:

It works!
This air filter has helped control the amount of animal fur and dander floating around inside (2 large dogs and 5 cats). The pictures are after 3.5 months of constant use. We’re happy with the purchase and want to get a second one for the other half of the house after seeing these results. @Anne

Dog approved!
This purifier is great. It’s quiet and effective. We’ve noticed the musty smell from our dogs’ dander has decreased, and my wife’s allergy symptoms have subsided. It has a sleek, modern design, runs very quietly, and fits perfectly in the area next to our bookshelf. The remote is great for adjusting the speed, adding a sleep feature (which lowers the output during the evening hours), and adjusting the timer. All in all, we’re very happy with our purchase and highly recommend this product! @August
