10 Low-Key Celebrity Weddings That Prove Love Is All You Need

year ago

Celebrities are known for throwing lavish and extravagant weddings. It’s not surprising though as they can certainly pull it off, and it’s what is typically expected of public figures. However, there are couples who take the less-traveled path in terms of celebrity weddings and opt for a more private affair, away from the spotlight.

Take away the glitz and glamour and you’ve got a wedding that’s made for 2 people and, of course, lots of love. Bright Side is listing down some celebrity low-key weddings that we hope can inspire you.

1. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz

The couple wed in 2011 in New York with only 4 people as guests: 2 were their own children and the other 2 were the couple’s close friends. The wedding was so low-key that even photos from the event haven’t resurfaced yet.

2. Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn

While Ed Sheeran announced his engagement on Instagram in 2018 to his then longtime girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, their actual wedding day was kept under wraps. In an interview, Sheeran detailed how their wedding happened on a random night in the middle of January and revealed that no one knew where it was and no one came. They just got married and had curry after. It was only a few months later that they celebrated with a few friends and family, and even that was private, as no photos from the said event ever came out.

3. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard

For a total of $147, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard legally bound their love in marriage in 2014. It was a no-frills, no-stress kind of day that involved listening to all of Bell’s favorite high school songs in the car on the way to the courthouse. Shepard shared that they didn’t want to spend a ton on a wedding since they’d rather buy a family member a house.

4. Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez

On May 15, 2021, Ariana Grande and real estate agent Dalton Gomez married in the singer’s home in Montecito, California. It was an intimate affair with less than 20 guests that included close friends and respective families of the couple. While the event was kept low-key, Grande’s Vera Wang dress was the talk of the town. It is said that a few years prior, before Grande even met her husband, Wang made a pact with the singer that when the time came, she would create her wedding dress.

5. Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost’s union proved to be private yet one that was for a charitable cause. News about the couple’s wedding was released by Meals on Wheels America, a charity that the couple partnered with to raise money for vulnerable seniors as their wedding wish. The couple married in their home in New York with only their closest friends and family in attendance.

6. Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma

4 days before Christmas, Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma exchanged their vows in front of their daughter, Banks, their family, and friends. It was an intimate celebration that happened in the front yard of their home in Los Angeles, California.

7. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

This couple’s wedding was so low-key, their guests didn’t even know they were going to a wedding! On May 19, 1997, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick invited 100 guests to New York’s Angel Orensanz Synagogue under the impression that they were attending a simple cocktail party.

8. Keira Knightley and James Righton

Even before, Keira Knightly has expressed that she didn’t want to have the kind of big wedding that Hollywood couples are known for. True enough, the multi-award-winning actress and musician James Righton exchanged vows in front of only 11 guests in a town hall in Mazan, south of France. After this, they celebrated their big day at a reception attended by 50 of their closest friends and family.

9. Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard

In 2018, model and actress Emily Ratajkowski made a surprise announcement that she married film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. The announcement came with wedding photos, where Emily was wearing a $200 Zara suit and a black wide-brimmed hat with a veil. The couple tied the knot at a New York city hall in front of a few friends.

10. Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Yes, it’s possible to have a low-key wedding, even if you’re the music industry’s power couple. In 2008, Beyoncé and Jay-Z married privately in front of 40 guests followed by a reception at Jay-Z’s apartment in New York City. Beyoncé’s mother, Tina, who is famously known for designing many of the singer’s outfits, also had a hand in creating the bride’s wedding dress.
