Why More and More People Prefer to Stay Single Nowadays

The tales of being sad while single might be misplaced. Today, modern people have started to question the norms and have learned to truly enjoy their single life — but why? There are different reasons why people today would like to stay alone for a longer period of time or maybe even forever. That’s because it’s simply not considered “wrong” anymore.

We at Bright Side decided to look into the reasons why people are deciding to live alone and we didn’t expect to find so many interesting results.

1. Time spent with other people is more enjoyable.

People started to focus more on personal time, their social lives, and careers. They don’t want their life to be controlled by their relationship status or to neglect their self-worth. This gives them the chance to stay more open to new adventures and they actually see themselves as more fun because they’re single.

They savor every minute in their life, which is more than people of previous generations can say. They recognize life’s value.

2. Women like the feeling of independence.

Women love the feeling of being empowered and free. They focus on their careers and respect their personal lives without the need to make any sacrifices due to love. Getting into a relationship makes them afraid to lose all of that, especially their independence.

Because of this, they end up marrying later in life, once they’ve completed their higher education and established stable careers. This is the main reason why the divorce rate has dropped significantly.

3. As we get older, single life starts to seem like a better option.

There was a study done on people between the ages of 40 and 85 that showed their single lives were a lot better. In fact, as they got older, they grew even more satisfied. When this was compared to those who had romantic partners, it wasn’t so straightforward.

Even though many people don’t believe a woman who has been single most of her life that says, “I’m fine,” she actually is. Their mental and physical health is equally as good as their married counterparts.

4. More and more people don’t want to commit.

People who are looking for a strong relationship and want to commit end up single because they can’t find someone who also cares and values commitment. Today, this is rare and it builds a fear that keeps people away from each other.

When you keep reminding your partner about the value of commitment but they don’t change their view, it seems like you’ve wasted time for nothing. That’s why some people think that getting a partner on the same level isn’t worth it, and in some cases, impossible.

5. They have a hard time trusting others.

Even though there are great love stories, the ones that have a bad ending usually stick with us. This fact can play with our ability to trust and can make it difficult to believe what someone else says. The time that we need to get to know someone’s personality and see if they can be trusted seems like too much.

6. They stay single because of low self-esteem.

When we enjoy daydreaming, sleeping whenever we want, and spending time alone, we start to think that we’re not good enough to have a partner. Mostly because that type of lifestyle is not easy to share with others, but for us, it’s just perfect. Low self-esteem seems to keep many people away from relationships and they’re happier staying single, not worrying about what the other person thinks of them.

7. They want to work on themselves.

Yes, in a relationship you can work on yourself, but there are more opportunities to do so when you’re single. When you work on self-development, it’s easier to build better character and work on your weaknesses and become stronger. When you don’t have someone else to think about, there’s a lot more time for business ideas, relaxing, and working out. The freedom of choosing what you want to do with your spare time is the reason many decide to stay solo.

Are you single or in a relationship? Do you think single life is better? When did you felt better — when you were alone or when you had a partner?

I don’t know any woman who is happy being single. It’s a myth maybe created by egoistic men who treat a woman as a tool to the sex and doesn’s want to build a serious relationship.
