We Ranked 15 of the Best Movie Superhero Costumes of All Time

Films
year ago

We all know superhero films are widely popular, with many grossing over a billion dollars. But they’d be nothing without their iconic costumes. In fact, the big costume reveal is often a significant moment in the film or show, and they’re always well thought out, which only enhances their stories.

We decided to rank our favorite superhero getups, but it wasn’t easy, as many of them are quite memorable.

15. Daredevil

Matt Murdoch lost his sight as a child, but Daredevil gives us functional fashion in this red and black number. And we love the subtle devil horns on the helmet.

14. Deadpool

It’s very similar to the comic book costume with the color scheme and the fact that there’s no nose or mouthpiece. This suit really brings out the white in his eyes.

13. Thena from Eternals

In The Eternals, while each character was individual and had their own identity, their costumes united them. Thena’s costume is minimalistic in color and pays homage to the Greek goddess, Athena.

12. Captain America

Captain America’s costume may seem a little on the nose, but embracing the symbolism is why we’ve added him to the list. Plus, he has a matching vibranium shield.

11. Doctor Strange

A cape is a fashion staple in a superhero’s wardrobe, but for Doctor Strange, this cape has a mind of its own, which is why he made it onto this list.

10. Valkyrie

East News

Valkyrie’s armor looks like it was made for her, and it was. In an interview, the costume designer, Mayes C. Rubeo, said they digitally printed the costume so it could adhere to the person wearing it.

9. Superman

Whichever version of Superman we see, the foundation of the costume is always the same. We love to see the big “S” on the chest, the blue and red colors, and the billowing red cape.

8. Scarlet Witch

Throughout the films and the TV show, Wanda has had a real journey. Her costumes have evolved along with her, and when she finally became Scarlet Witch, her costume got upgraded too. The headpiece is tres chic.

7. Iron Man

This is the suit that kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. It doesn’t look comfortable at all, but it sure does look cool.

6. Aquaman

Gold and green might be our new favorite color combo. The golden fish scales pop and go really well with Aquaman’s trident.

5. Thor

East News

We love this back-to-basics Thor look. It feels like a nod to Viking-style armor, and the asymmetric paint is a look we’re open to trying.

4. Black Panther

East News

The costume designer, Ruth Carter, said, “That triangle is the sacred geometry of Africa. I felt that it made his suit have this character that would, in the wide shots, make him this superhero, but in the close-up, you see this beautiful pattern that is consistent with a lot of the art of Africa and would turn him into this African king.”

3. Batman

Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection/East News

The Batsuit has come a long way since the “undies over tights” days, which can clearly be seen in the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice version. The suit needed some heavy-duty armor to go up against the Kryptonians.

2. Spider-Man

Sony Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection/East News

This Spider-Man suit gets props for looking like a spider — the metal legs upgraded the suit to make this a one-of-a-kind costume.

1. Wonder Woman

Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection/East News

This Wonder Woman suit is completely different from what we know to be her costume. The head-to-toe gold and retractable wings are why we think this costume deserves to be in the top spot.

What are your favorite superhero costumes? Did we miss any?
