As Susan Sarandon Turns 76, She Is Not Giving Up on Finding Love Again and Explains Why She Prefers Dating Younger Men
When it comes to romance, society has many rules that define who we should and should not date. Yet, Susan Sarandon strongly believes that listening to our hearts is much more important than any boundaries set by others. In fact, the Hollywood star, who is turning 76 this year, has always been drawn to younger men, proving that age is just a number and what really matters is how young we feel.
Why she feels attracted to younger men
In 2015, the actress was 68 years old when she broke up with her screenwriter boyfriend of 5 years, Jonathan Bricklin, aged 37. And even though their relationship didn’t last, Susan doesn’t blame it on their 31-year age gap. On the contrary, the actress believes that being with much younger men works best for her.
In fact, the Hollywood icon explained that she is attracted to younger people because they are “really looking, interested, and asking questions.” She explained that this curiosity and appetite for life is “much easier to find when you’re younger because nobody knows anything, and everything is new.”
Sarandon added, “when you get to a certain point, some people are trying to be safe and protect themselves.” And this is the reason why she admits, “I find it difficult now to find older guys who would be appropriate.” Even though, she explains that others keep pointing out to her the big age gap whenever she “starts going out with someone younger.”
Her past relationships
Susan’s first serious love story started with fellow actor Chris Sarandon while she was still in school. The couple got married when she was 21, and he was 4 years older. Their union lasted 7 years, after which they “decided to mutually move on.” She even kept his last name.
After the divorce, and before meeting Jonathan Bricklin in 2015, the 2 long-term relationships that Sarandon had were also with younger men. First, she was in a 4-year relationship with director Franco Amurri, the father of her daughter Eva. Franco is 11 years her junior.
Later on, the actress was in a 23-year relationship with actor Tim Robbins, with whom she had 3 sons. Robbins is 12 years younger than her. Susan also briefly dated actor Sean Penn, 13 years her junior.
Love is more powerful than details.
It is true that time and our life experiences help us figure out what works best for us and who we truly are. And Susan understood that, for her, love is much more important than the number of years that separate 2 people, or anything else for that matter. She notes, “It’s the soul of a person that interests me,” adding, “When you are in love, the question of age, gender, color no longer hold any importance.”
76 and ready for love
Today, at 76, Sarandon is single but would like to find a romantic partner, even though she believes that it might be more difficult now. Speaking of love, she said, “That window may have closed, but I’m forever hopeful,” before quickly adding, “but not desperate.”
The star reiterates that she is not giving up on her passion for discovery and people who are curious about life. She commented, “I would like to find someone who’s up-for-an-adventure kind of attitude. And also, who cares about something passionately and who loves what they do, whatever that is.”
Do you agree that a big age difference shouldn’t matter when 2 people are in love?
