15 Amusing Stories That Occured on a Flight

When traveling, we often find ourselves in situations which we can’t forget for a long time. The heroes of our article went somewhere by plane. Some of them work in aviation, and some are ordinary passengers.

• Every so often we get the odd straggler who boards last who finds a vacant seat in first or business, thinking that we won’t know that they are from coach.

• We were about to take off. Suddenly, the gate supervisor came up the jet bridge, called one of the passengers and asked him to explain what was in his suitcase, because the loaders refused to put it on the plane. And he said, “I was fishing, fresh fish.”
  Apparently, this guy had packed a bunch of fish he caught into his suitcase. He managed to get it through check-in and even through the TSA screen, but after being bumped and tossed in handling, by the time it got to the plane it was wet and smelly. • I work as an aircraft technician. Sometimes there are flight delays due to malfunctions when the passengers are already on board. At these moments, I feel like a little superhero while I fix the defect. After all, the faster I do it, the faster people will take off — some fly to their parents, some fly to get a job, some fly to propose to their sweethearts.

• I once flew on work to the UAE. On board, I fell in love at first sight with a flight attendant. She was so beautiful that I couldn’t take my eyes off her. I wanted to compliment her, but I was too shy because I don’t know how to communicate with girls, so I just smiled stupidly every time she passed by.
  After dinner, I was listening to music when someone patted me on the shoulder. It turned out to be that flight attendant. I tensed up, thinking she had noticed my gaze, but she leaned over and whispered, “You have a very nice smile.” The girl I wanted to compliment complimented me. • The flight had been victim to several delays, and the passengers were beginning to feel like captives onboard a flight that had not even left the departure gate. After the Captain’s last PA announcing another problem to be addressed before leaving, the flight attendants all came out in the cabin with paper bags with eyeholes cut out of them on their heads.
  They told passengers that they were so embarrassed and sorry that they couldn’t even show their faces! It was hysterical and everyone realized that they were not the problem, but victims also! • I was on a flight from Seoul to Jeju Island in Korea. As we took off and began the ascent, liquid started dripping down on the festively dressed passengers. It started in the overhead compartment in the 3rd row and dripped in everyone’s hair and shoulders. All the way back to the last row in the little plane.
  Lots of little shrieks, then immediately angry voices. The sharp smell of pickle juice permeated the plane. An annoyed flight attendant dashed over, reached deep in to the overhead compartment, and removed a very wet, still dripping bag. We could hear the broken glass pieces moving against each other.

• I once watched a very well-dressed businessman have an epic toddler-level tantrum at a check-in counter when he was advised his flight was delayed due to fog. He literally screamed and jumped up and down, and demanded that the airline “better do something about it or else!”

• Not a flight attendant but fly a lot, and I was on a plane where half the plane were ignoring the rules and stuff. When we touched down, these people immediately got up, walking around and started taking their bags out of the overheads. The flight attendants are now desperately trying to get these people to sit down until the plane stops moving, and some people were waving their hands at them dismissively.
  I think the captain heard the commotion and the flight attendants half yelling because all of a sudden the plane did a very abrupt stop which knocked over all the people standing up and then continued to park. • I’m currently a flight attendant, and on my very first flight I had a passenger complain to me that the man behind him was snoring too loudly. Putting on my best customer service smile, I offered to move the complainer, who very aggressively told me that he’d paid for his seat and he wasn’t moving, yelling loudly enough that he woke the snoring guy in the process.
  I wish I’d had a first class seat available to move the snoring guy just to spite the complainer, but there were only other economy seats available. So I just told the complainer that he could continue yelling at me, or he could accept my offer of a different seat, but that was all I could do for him. • I had someone have a meltdown because I had to have them properly stow their wedding dress. The thing was massive and spilling into the aisle, blocking seats of the entire row. They may have had to pay the hotel to get the wrinkles out, but I likely saved them from shoe prints and beverage cart rollers going back and forth over it.

• My mom was a flight attendant for over 20 years. She saw Nadia Comăneci’s name on the flight manifest once, so she went and talked to her and told her she wouldn’t tell a soul — as long as she got an autograph. • Serving drinks and snacks on the plane. A man in the aisle seat is ordering, and then the woman next to him interjects, “I’ll have the noodles.” The man pretends to be indignant, saying he doesn’t even know her.

• My sister has been a flight attendant for 6 years. Told me a bunch of stories, but one is the most memorable. One day, a passenger with a cat opened the carrier, even though it was not allowed, and the cat escaped. Just like in movies, they had to turn on the lights and announce over the loudspeaker for passengers to look for the pet at their feet.
