Our pets are capable of many things: some of them manage to run an underground business or renovate their own homes. The following stories about their wit, friendliness and mischief, and they are a real treat for those who want to spend a nice and carefree evening.

  • My wife and I saved money for holiday. Suddenly it disappeared. And we had been saving it for a year! And no strangers had come to our house. My wife was in tears.
Then we accepted it. Next morning, we found out that the money was brazenly stolen by none other than our parrot. Apparently, to make repairs, because he laid the floor in his cage with a part of banknotes. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I went for a walk with my pug and there was a huge Alabai dog walking in the park. I got scared, but its owner said, “Don’t be afraid, Thumbelina is friendly, she won’t bite!”
I asked him why Thumbelina, because the dog is as tall as me... And he smiled and said, “She’s got fangs a thumb long!” But, as it turned out, his dog was really friendly, affectionate and kind. © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • Once, I went for a walk with my dog and decided to buy some tasty treats for him on the way. But it turned out that the pet shop on weekends opens not at 8, but at 9 o’clock, so it was still almost an hour before the opening. So, I say to the dog, let’s go for a run, and on the way back remind me that we need to go buy some tasty treats.
And, naturally, I forgot about all my plans after the walk and went straight home. But on the way home, the dog took the leash in his teeth and purposefully pulled me in the direction of the pet shop, I didn’t immediately understand what he wanted from me. So, the boy got his treats for good memory. © abright / Pikabu
  • Our cat recently “broke.” My daughter asked for a parrot, but my husband and I were worried because we didn’t know how the bird would get along with our favorite predator. At your own risk, we bought a parrot in a pet shop, brought it home — the daughter was over the moon.
The cat first carefully observed what was happening, then came closer, and didn’t move away from the cage. A week later, they sleep next to each other, and the cat thinks that the parrot is her child. She licks him, protects him, feeds him fish. © Mamdarinka / VK
  • My dad grew up in the countryside. What impressed me most was the story of how a domestic duck was “stolen” by a wild drake. Dad found the fugitive in a meadow not far from the house.
Her “man” was sitting next to her, flying away and coming back to her from time to time. The poor duck was quacking so loudly and couldn’t fly away after her beloved, because she was very fat and simply couldn’t get off the ground. As a woman, I felt so sorry for her. © My Story / VK
  • My friend taught his cat to not be afraid of the vacuum cleaner. The cat was very scared of it, jumped on the walls, hid, ran away. The friend began to put a bowl of cat food and turn on the vacuum cleaner.
At first, it didn’t work very well, but over time, the cat got used to it and even, on the contrary, ran to the noise of the vacuum cleaner. The sound of the vacuum cleaner meant food in the bowl. At first, it was effective, but now the cat comes to the sound of the vacuum cleaner and starts meowing, jumping on the walls, running around the flat. If he used to do such things out of fear before, now it’s his way of asking for food. © Ward 6 / VK
  • My best friend asks not to ring her doorbell. Everyone close to her knows this, but other people have no idea. Her cat is skittish, always peeing on the floor when she hears the bell, and my friend has to clean it all up afterwards. There have been many funny incidents.
And recently my friend got a boyfriend who solved the problem: he changed the sound of the doorbell to something more pleasant — birdsong. Now every time someone rings the doorbell, my friend’s cat screams and climbs the curtains. © Ward #6 / VK
  • I walked recently with my daughter and the dog. I go, the stroller in one hand and the leash in the other. Our dog is obedient, never pulls the leash or tries to escape. But this time something went wrong.
We passed by trash bins, and then she began to pull in their direction almost hysterically. No reaction to my “No” that I repeated 3 times. I got mad and let go of the leash. She immediately jumped into the bin. I thought, “Here we go. Don’t we feed you enough?!”
But she climbed out of there with some bag a minute later, ripped it open with her teeth, and there were 3 kittens. About a week old. All alive. We took them home, nursed them back to health.
But you know what’s amazing? The dog is breastfeeding them! She gave birth to puppies 2 days ago, but none of them survived. She took those kittens in as her own babies. How amazing this animal world is, after all! © Mamdarinka / VK
  • When I was choosing what kind of pet to get, I immediately decided that it definitely wouldn’t be a dog. I’m a late bird, I sleep until 11 every morning, and I’m not ready to get up early and walk the pet.
So I bought a cat because it goes to the litter tray. Yeah. But it wakes me up in the morning earlier than any dog would! She climbs on my bed at 7 a.m. and starts poking me in the face with her paw. If I turn away, she meows like mad.
And yesterday, she brought me a packet of cat food in her teeth right into bed, hinting that it was time to feed her. © Mamdarinka / VK
  • I have the laziest cat in the world. He grew fat a couple of years ago after spaying. Now this fluff weighs about 30 pounds, he’s big and clumsy. All day long he only eats and sleeps, even toys can’t make him run around the flat.
A week ago we went for a couple of days to my mother-in-law, she has a private house in the village. So the cat came to life. He started to move, chasing butterflies, chasing the neighbor’s cats.
My husband and I joke that we didn’t even know that our fat guy can run. And the cat remembered his hunting instincts as well. He woke me up with his paw in the morning because he brought a lizard in his teeth for me. Right into the bed! © Ward 6 / VK
  • My rat steals and hordes everything he can get his hand on, especially makeup. Once he chewed open a bottle of lip tar and was stained red for days. Another time I caught him pulling dollar bills out of my bag. I try to explain to him that no one will take money from a rat, but he seems to think he can bend the rules of society. © rocketsfindplanets / Reddit
  • When it’s “laundry time,” our cat hops into the laundry basket to ride in it from the closet to the washer. Then he sits on top of the dryer, and helps load the washer by using his paws to push items inside it, one by one. Later, when the dryer is running, he naps on top of it — enjoying the warmth rising up. © Unknown author / Reddit
  • My dad once told me a story about how a bear came to their sawmill. Wild animals often came to visit them there: foxes, hares, sometimes wolves ran by. And here came the bear!
He walked carefully and quietly, looked around, then went to the trash bin. Everyone was afraid to move, just silently watching the bear. A cat who lived at the sawmill saved the situation.
His fur stood up and he began to hiss. The bear got so frightened of this demon that he ran away in a jiffy! Dad says that from that moment on, the cat was fed only premium fish and canned food. © Ward No. 6 / VK
  • My cat ran away from home and settled in the boiler house with other cats. I tried to catch her, but she looked at me like, “What’s wrong with you? I’ve got new men and friends here. Why would I want to go home?” and stayed away from me.
After a month, I gave up. I thought, “Well, she likes being free, so I should let her go.” So she started living in the street. And when I met her, I could see that she wasn’t really well. Eventually, I didn’t give up, caught her by the scruff of the neck while I was feeding other cats and dragged her home.
She screamed the whole way like she was being cut. But when she got home, she calmed down in a second. And that was it: she hasn’t tried to leave home for about 5 years. Conclusion: cats can also have psychosis and transition age. © vintovka.net / Pikabu
  • The cat stopped eating. He was lying all day on the chair, didn’t ask for attention, and didn’t approach his bowl. We grabbed him and rushed to the vet. We took a lot of tests, were really worried.
2 hours and $500 later, we were told the diagnosis: it turns out that this cheeky red face is absolutely healthy, he’s just bored. “Buy him some toys, take him for a walk in the park,” the vet told us. He’s got more toys than I’ve had in my whole life! What a bastard!
  • My cat never failed to use his litter box. But one day I found a wet spot on the bed. The next day — the same thing, but the litter box was dry. I didn’t scold him, but took him to the vet clinic. They made an ultrasound and all tests: the cat is healthy.
And only a week later, having spent a fortune, I suddenly found out that the cat just doesn’t want to sit in the litter box, and even if he sits down there, moves around and goes away. It turned out that the new wood cat litter was pricking his tender parts. I changed the litter, and the problem disappeared. © tbrnv / Pikabu
