18 Photos That Show Why It’s So Hard to Understand Japan
Japan always has something to surprise the residents of other countries with. A good example is a recent piece of news saying that the winners of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be awarded medals made from recycled electronics. Japanese people have never been ordinary and their life and culture are still of genuine interest to the whole world.

"Human uber" seemed weird for me at first, but then I just realized this idea is actually really smart

I think the rationale for the "お帰りなさい(Welcome back)/Welcome to Japan" signs at the Narita airport is that they figure that if you can't read the Japanese, you are a first-time visitor, but if you can read the Japanese, you're either a citizen, a resident, or a repeat visitor.
As far as the taxis go, I'll agree, if you want a taxi at an airport, train station, or bus station, you have to go to the first one in line. I remember coming back to my city on a bus from Narita Airport, and I needed a taxi at my local bus station to take me home. Since I had a lot of luggage, I just went to the taxi that was closest to me. But the taxi driver told me I had to go to the other side of the terminal and get in the taxi that was first in line.
