Naming your child is one of the most important and defining moments of becoming a parent. And the decision can be a challenging one. Many parents want to pick names that stand out, or that have deep and personal meanings for them. And celebrities are no different. Some celebrities defy convention, choosing unique names, often with interesting meanings.

Bright Side collected some of the most creative celebrity children’s names and the inspiration behind them. Some are mysterious and some are sweet, and we hope they inspire you to embrace your individuality and think outside the box.

1. Beyoncé

Beyoncé and Jay Z have 3 children together. Their eldest daughter is named Blue Ivy. In 2017, they had twins, who they named Rumi and Sir Carter. Rumi was named after the couple’s favorite poet, and Sir just seemed like the perfect name for the baby boy.

2. Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner still isn’t sure how she and Travis Scott landed on the name Stormi for their daughter. They thought of Storm first, but it didn’t feel right. Then it became Stormi and it just stuck. Kylie even said that there might have been other names she preferred, but it was like Stormi picked her own name.

3. Gwyneth Paltrow

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin have 2 children together. They raised a few eyebrows when they announced their daughter’s name was Apple, but Gwyneth explained why. She said it sounded sweet and wholesome and clean. They also have a son called Moses, named after a song Chris wrote for her before they were married.

4. Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have twins, a son and a daughter. Their daughter is named Monroe, after actress Marilyn Monroe, who is one of Carey’s inspirations. Their son is called Moroccan, taken from the Moroccan-inspired decor of Carey’s apartment in New York, which was the location of Cannon’s proposal.

5. Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys has 2 sons, and they have very unusual names. Her older son is named Egypt, and the younger is named Genesis. Egypt apparently got his name after Alicia took a life-changing trip to the country he is named after.

6. Khloé Kardashian

Khloé Kardashian explained the unusual name of her daughter, True. Her grandmother suggested the name, and it was her great-grandfather’s first name, and her grandfather’s middle name. She couldn’t get it out of her head throughout her pregnancy, so she knew it was the right name.

7. Cardi B

Rapper Cardi B and her husband Offset had a baby girl in 2018. There was much speculation about what her name would be. Then it was announced: Kulture Kiari. Offset chose the name, but Cardi really likes it. Kulture, when spelled ’culture’, means the arts or the ideas and customs of a society. And Kiari is actually the rapper offset’s real first name.

What are your kids’ names, and where did the inspiration come from? Which of these celebrity child names was the most surprising for you?
