9 Signs Your Body Is Starving for Magnesium
If you constantly feel tired, your eyes are twitching and you have muscle spasms, most likely there is a lack of magnesium in your body. A magnesium deficiency can cause health problems because too many processes in the body depend on it. That’s why you should stay alert and be able to spot a deficiency in time.
1. Sugar food cravings
A burning desire to eat something sweet shows that there is a lack of certain minerals in the body, in particular, magnesium. Magnesium loss in women is often connected to menstruation, and in athletes, to intense training when the body spends magnesium on muscle work.
2. Muscle soreness and cramping

Muscle cramps and soreness can be very painful. If you suffer from them regularly, it can be a sign of low magnesium levels. Magnesium and vitamins D, E and B can prevent muscle cramps. So visit your doctor to check the levels of these vitamins and make sure you get the recommended daily dose of them.
Also, you can try to alleviate your suffering by massaging the affected muscles in a circular motion.
3. Insomnia
Magnesium deficiency can cause insomnia. Magnesium is vital for a function called “brain relaxation”. This ability of the brain helps us to relax and fall asleep calmly.
As we mentioned earlier, low levels of magnesium can lead to muscle cramps. This causes restless feet syndrome, a condition that causes the legs to shudder at night. As a result, the quality of your sleep lowers.
4. Bone disease
Magnesium deficiency can also increase the risk of developing bone problems. This may lead to an increased risk of fracture. The point is that magnesium deficiency can reduce the level of calcium in the blood, and calcium is essential for maintaining healthy bones.
5. Acid reflux
If you have a magnesium deficiency, food and stomach acid return to the esophagus. This leads to a burning sensation which is called acid reflux or heartburn.
6. Stress and apathy
Magnesium is an essential element for building a strong nervous system. This element is responsible for relaxation. With a lack of magnesium in the body, a person feels causeless anxiety and stress. So the risk of depression increases dramatically.
7. Constipation
There are many reasons why you may have constipation, from stress to an under-consumption of fiber. Magnesium has a relaxing effect on many parts of the body, including the digestive tract. Due to the lack of this mineral, intestinal functions don’t work properly which leads to constipation.
8. Fatigue
Magnesium is needed for reactions that create energy in the cells. Without magnesium, you won’t have enough energy at the cellular level. This can manifest as fatigue, low energy, and lack of mobility.
9. Severe headache

If you lack in all these areas (vitamins A, B, C, and D), it can result in a very severe headache. Migraines usually affect only one side of the head. Magnesium deficiency can cause migraines and frequent headaches. With a deficiency of this mineral, the blood vessels in the brain quickly narrow and expand, which is the cause of a migraine. A sufficient amount of magnesium in the body reduces the risk of changes in the blood vessels and eliminates headaches.
What foods are high in magnesium?
A balanced diet can provide the body’s daily need for magnesium. Many people don’t get enough magnesium because they lead an unhealthy lifestyle.
Here’s a list of foods that can increase your magnesium level:
