Dermatologist Reveals 4 Real Reasons Why Jennifer Lopez, 53, Doesn’t Age, and It’s More Than Plastic Surgery or Products
At 53, Jennifer Lopez looks younger than ever, and we’ve been wondering what the key to her ageless skin and youthful glow is. Recently, Dr. Dray, a dermatologist, has made a YouTube video titled, Why J.Lo Doesn’t Age, trying to explain how the star looks better than ever. And the reason might be not what you expected.
J.Lo. doesn’t get Botox.
J.Lo herself noted in 2020 that she doesn’t get cosmetic procedures. ’’I haven’t ever had Botox to this day,’’ the star admitted. “I’m more about a natural approach to skin care... but I want [my products] to work.”
And Dr. Dray confirms that these procedures aren’t the only things that give us perfect skin or help us reverse the signs of aging. In her video, the doctor noted, “There are many other factors that go into skin aging.”
She added, "I think people are under the impression that getting Botox, fillers, and having cosmetic procedures is really why these people look so good. And it’s more than that.’’
The prevention of UV radiation is key.
The skin care professional detailed that many factors we encounter throughout our lives can lead to the formation of wrinkles on our skin. One of these contributing factors is exposure to UV radiation from the sun, which Lopez, according to Dray, has taken precautions against since her youth.
Dr. Dray went on, explaining, “The main factor is UV rays from the sun, and J.Lo is pretty vocal about the fact that since the age of 22, she has been really diligent with sunscreen.”
Healthy diet is crucial.
Another factor that the dermatologist insists has a ’’major role’’ in the appearance of our skin is our diet.
The expert shared that she doesn’t know exactly what the star’s diet is and she also added that we don’t have to follow it, even if we know what J.Lo eats. She shared, ’’Everyone’s nutritional needs are unique to them and it’s not necessarily helpful to follow a celebrity’s diet because they are going to have different nutritional needs.’’
Having said that, Dr. Dray added that there are some ’’things that are good for the health of our skin, which include healthy fats, getting enough protein, vitamins and minerals, and vitamin C for building good healthy collagen."
The expert went on, saying, “If you have a balanced diet, you are going to get the nutritive requirements, but if you survive on sugary processed foods, it’s not going to set you up for healthy skin.’’ And she insists that ’’no amount of Botox or fillers is going to change that.”
Being active gives us that glow.
A third factor that the skin professional insists is very crucial for good skin is exercise. She credits being very active to the skin looking fresh and healthy given that it ameliorates circulation and reduces inflammation in the body. And, of course, Lopez is known for her rigorous workout routines and “non-stop” dancing.
Genetics are beyond our control, but they play a central role.
Dr. Dray adds that there is another factor that plays a big part in the appearance of our skin, which we don’t have any control over, and that’s genetics. She explained that these include the “thickness of your skin,” dry skin conditions, like eczema, and whether or not you are “pale.”
The expert and YouTuber shared, “Genetics definitely play a role in how quickly your skin and total body will age.’’ She added that there are many ’’things in our environment that contribute to aging of the skin.’’
Dr. Dray admitted, “We have different enzymes in our skin that help combat those free radicals. Some people’s genes make it so that their enzymes are better perhaps.”
