High School Student Learned How to Sew and Made a Prom Dress for His Date Who Couldn’t Afford One
The high school student, Parker Smith, is a real-life Prince Charming. When his prom date, Addi Rust, couldn’t afford her dream gown, he left her in tears of joy by crafting a stunning dress just for her.
High school junior Parker Smith, who had no prior sewing experience, embarked on a mission to create his date’s dream prom dress. This decision came after his partner, Addi Rust, found the perfect but expensive dress for their prom. In a playful moment, she suggested, “Parker, why don’t you just make my prom dress!”
Parker pondered the request and ultimately embraced the challenge of crafting the dress for his date. For months, Parker dedicated himself to learning the art of sewing, with occasional guidance from his grandmother. The final creation was a splendid blue ball gown that allowed Addi to twirl gracefully at the prom alongside Parker.
After the prom, Addi took to Twitter to shower her date with praise for going above and beyond to fashion her the perfect dress for the occasion.
She wrote, “Taking a minute to brag on this man because I think this is the coolest thing that I’ve ever been a part of. Parker MADE my prom dress. Straight from scratch did the whole thing, and I am still speechless. I’m so lucky to have him as my best friend!”
Parker, too, took to his Twitter account to share images of the dress he had decided to fashion for his date. He wrote, “It’s been quite a journey, but I’ve just completed the first thing I’ve ever sewed — a prom dress, just in time for the ball.” He also referred to Cinderella, calling himself both Addi’s Prince Charming but also her fairy godmother.
The pair embraced the idea of Parker being Addi’s Prince Charming, playfully recreating the iconic moment of him slipping her white heel onto her foot for one of their prom pictures.
The entire experience has ignited a newfound passion within Parker to continue crafting dresses from scratch. He envisions pursuing studies in costume design and musical theater during college, ultimately becoming a Broadway costume designer.
