Julianne Moore Proves That There’s Nothing to Fear About Aging and Shows Us How to Embrace Wrinkles
One of the most stunning women in the world, Julianne Moore, is 62 years old. But she hasn’t let her age affect her mind. Despite having a brilliant career spanning over 4 decades and being one of Hollywood’s top actresses, Julianne Moore hasn’t always been free from self-doubt. Even though she is famous and adored by fans, Moore confessed to feeling pressure from unreasonable beauty standards and she is incredibly self-conscious about her freckles.
Her insecurities come from her childhood.
As a young child, she started feeling like an outsider because of her fair complexion and red hair. “When I was growing up in the U.S., it felt as if no one had freckles [and] I just wanted to look like every other tanned American kid,” she told The Sunday Times in July 2022.
She eventually stopped stressing about it after realizing there was nothing she could do, although she confesses it still bothers her every now and then. “I still see somebody in a backless dress with no freckles, and I’m like, ‘Oh! I would love that!’” she revealed. In an interview with People, Julianne said, “I still don’t like them [and] I’d prefer not to have them.” Over time, she learned a valuable lesson: “It’s okay to have something you don’t love. It’s really alright.”
Everyone goes through aging, and this is why we shouldn’t stress about it.
In a 2021 interview with As If magazine, Moore brought up the topic for the first time and criticized the phrase “aging gracefully” as “totally sexist.” She explained her view: “There’s so much judgment inherent in the term, ’aging gracefully.’ Is there an ungraceful way to age?” she asked, noting how aging is not a choice.
Instead, everyone has to go through it, whether they want to or not. “It’s not a positive or a negative thing, it just is,” she reasoned. “It’s part of the human condition, so why are we always talking about it as if it is something that we have control over?”
For Moore, aging is nothing but an opportunity.
Julianne Moore is serious about redefining what it means to age, and she wants to do more than do away with the notion of “aging gracefully.” It’s not something that should be viewed as a nuisance or taken for granted, she said in an interview with The Sunday Times. “It seems so silly to talk about it as something negative when it is a privilege to continue to age,” she added.
She makes us see beauty deep down to the wrinkles.
In an interview with Page Six, Julianne encouraged everyone to accept that it’s time to look at aging as an opportunity. “Shouldn’t aging be about inner growth?”
She asked readers to embrace life and ask themselves, “How do we continue to challenge ourselves, to interest ourselves, learn new things, be more helpful to other people, be the person that your friends and family need or want? How do we continue to evolve? How do we navigate life to have even deeper experiences? That’s what aging should be about,” she concluded.
Out of everything, age isn’t a thing that bothers her.
Although Moore, who is now in her sixties, is sure that there is nothing to be afraid of as you age, she is also the first to confess that it can be challenging to live up to such a statement. She told The Sunday Times, “I don’t think it goes away entirely, I don’t think there is a person in the world who couldn’t care less.”
